Rodney remote YouTube removing items I'm done together call Alexandra Stan the school board School Board appreciation in Iowa for May and Aaron has certificates for you a lot of time and effort goes into serving as a school board member and so we really thank you all for everything that you do I also want to give a shout out to Rusty boss he has worked a ton of hours and persevered through a lot of red tape and rigmarole on the governor's Grand and he I just wind up and we were getting real nervous right it was coming down to the wire and so last week we got the notice so you recall in April you'll get all that approved to take that off the governor approved $3,000 of reimbursement so much safer and so Rusty I mean I hear from superintendents all over some of them were throwing their arms up going we're not doing this it's just craziness Kia work really hard to find us a really good quality used bus new buses are well over 120,000 and that would be on the cheaper end of it by the time you get it all said and done and found one on beautiful and it looks absolutely beautiful. Running little sucker not really saved a lot of money we have senior night any student who filled out an application for the foundation received the scholarship which it which is incredible I mean they could fill it out and not even though they're very well done got a scholarship and there were a lot of scholarships to be had at that is a benefit of a small District like PCM that if our students just fill up I just wanted to bring that everyone's and then not listed on your thing I want you to look around we haven't had a meeting where we passed all of our Cadre most of our Cadre our district leaders sitting here and here they all are from Sierra all way over to Tyler art coaches are here for the end of the year it's been so many great things cuz you know I'm really stuck together through it all we're rounding out the air and so I just went back and I'll call you when we're just so blessed to have these amazing people and when I came that was one thing I was told to build a strong team and you're looking at some really amazing dedicated people sitting here call Janice reading door 4th grade teachers and so what other board members have good news to share most liberal agenda items call Edna we have a discussion items we're going to start off with an overview of our student achievement has been rapping turn the floor over to call review we could go really deep and be here till midnight and would love to schedule a time with the board to do that but this is just a quick look up what are Dallas looking like so this is the overview of the ICS out with all staff a week two weeks we can have your something like that through math and reading the fastest us until we have around all of us will start at this so this is I thought I was going to go through a little bit of what I do with this so my role for next year is going to be data kind of a pretty one coach that an assessment coordinator type of person who is this guy took over a little more of the realm of the Middle School in guiding them through ice with estimates and things like that I helped get them all their trainings make sure they're doing that and then also look at that it wasn't coming and kind of make some diagnosis stop at principal stop at the dentist Mission instructional coaches things like that and we kind of talked through the data on our end as well okay so this right here is just as compiled from this year's I said to just take him first last week in March first week in April it takes about that long to get results about a month which is much quicker than it used to be okay when we do that so everybody and just so you know how the acceptance were everybody in grades 3 through 11 take this stuff okay what is required to take a math test everybody's required to take a reading test and then they also have one that's called language and writing okay that's a new piece this year so the ELA score that you see is actually a combination of a reading test and a combination of a language and a writing test that are combined to get one Scorpio reading once more for language and writing then they haven't Stowe's to out to give you an Ela score okay so that's how that works with proficient so we will go I'll go over there. Probably it's important to have a little more time for this by the station and tried to go through to get to go through every single students thing and see kind of how we did I'm writing how we did on the Reading part of it but that's a lot of the work that teachers are kind of doing now Downing through their own swear to God that share with them and that long you can see the scores from data meetings with the grade levels and that's one thing they're going through on their own their kind of looking through that to see okay where did we struggle do we need to text more on the address for the writing or the reading they don't separate language and writing those two together so you don't really have an idea of how much was waited one of the other in that realm but they do have two tests that are combined there okay then you have math and then in eighth and Ninth Grade tenth grades okay so that's only required three times for the high school career in 8th grade and then again in 10 thread okay to see how they're doing with science along the way there is much so so that was always kind of not really sure how we're going to do in the science ones when they come out just as it is that way or the other one that we can do with a math and reading things that we're going to go over for as well they're kind of give you an idea of how well they're performing throughout the year how well their learning and then which in turn should lead to results on the ice esta which is kind of outcome based in misgivings is going to talk about that when she gets to her as well I didn't know I know you've already talked about this but I just want to know if you had any questions for me revolving around the testing or around the protocols of the ISAT test that I can answer and if not I'll be going to that person so I didn't dream once and then I'll read for anything below 80 our school system has specified is our first beginning spot that we want to get it we want to get to 80% proficient that's what leads to a good mtss this no matter who leaves to all of all of the things that you need inside the school building anything about 80 meet that threshold that we have kind of set as a as our standard for right now or a different OK Google 70 kids testing 70-80 music. it is certainly talk to that might be one or two kids you know it was only a 60% class war two kids and drop that by a little bit of a percent there okay so we put that in yellow knowing that okay they are fairly close we can probably get them they're okay and then is red that's just where we have a little more work to do okay and then the blue if you don't need glue if there's any blue that's an idea about that means they're above the expectation in the blue truck that is green cuz that's pretty high up there too weather like in the math there was in the math for 4th grade of thinking third grade that was the people for inside people so people at five or six percent that right so yeah that's kind of color coding Rihanna's provision above that threshold is also right you know so we are striving for just 40% I wish I knew for higher than that okay but that's okay I just want you guys to realize that too when were when were talking about that so that's kind of where we're at with these scores and that's kind of color coding aspect of it and you'll see that color coding go on throughout b e r that make that 93% to talk about how for five kids or four or five kids CBS 5 weather at the 98% and you have or that are so whatever we will we will be able to see that. That's just a brief overview of what it looks like and what the scores are access to their scores but it's just that the detailed view of it we get when you're kind of information on that dome in the fall when the parents had access to the online poll will get access to more detailed report is the rain can be Broad based on what you just said for me when that when does more detailed report come out do you see a general over the last few years in the middle school that the 6th grade is lower or is it just happens that this sixth grade is an equestrian more than some of the name. Or is it just a lot and there's a lot of different things that we would have to dump more that I don't know exactly around what's going on inside their classrooms what kind of data they're using so I would have to work more than that to know that answer went to last year I just sent it to your door so if you want to know how Howard Howard relates to the year prior Rochester to your now we can go down further back and see more I mean I'm working on next week. Michelle wanted to have a 10-year forecast out if I we've been doing that's taking a little more time on my part just because we switch to the online testing in 2018 so I have to go back and find the paper copies of all the old scores and things like that which I'm in the process of doing a mission travel we shared with you as well so these aren't the same kids and emergency the same kids score this is the seventh grade score when they were in 6th grade their scoring 973 this year but I can actually increase by 1.64%. And I haven't been to how much that means from moving some about the things that interest will take that in consideration a little bit it seems like efficient your permission I shouldn't have to spend a week to get you ready for the like for math words that mean in example of math so there's about 12 different clusters that are in math standards that the state's telling us that we have to teach somewhere more private eyes on the test somewhere not so our preparation is just simply not simply teaching to what are what's the status saying the highest clusters are for that year that makes sense so we start preparing in January February and it's more around the way around how to answer these questions and we're going to down on these concepts are skilled it's more so you have an online test that these kids have money different tool for that there were trying to figure out how do you get to the calculator how do you get to the scrap or how do you get to the notebook how do you get to the notepad bookmark a page how do you do this right so there's a whole bunch of things so we do prep for the test a lot but it's more so prepping for help you take the test then Concepts and skills I can do any of our elementary teachers and no swiping change anything that were teaching just to teach to the test for what we're doing is we're teaching them how to take the test to take actually like fourth grade third grade fourth grade fifth grade princess they had a lot of tests that they took that are simply how'd you score on the tools of the test you're just tools of do I bookmark how do I go back and review how do I do these things so so that's more so what the preparation is and you be shot that I want to take these kids to True become proficient on how to take the test not different than any of those things because if you don't know when we prepared our athletic trainers to let me know what the difference is what 9 10 11 year olds how to navigate this complex system, the other testing two of them and they're trying to figure out it was a really long last name don't do that. Kind of all your eyes at that right now I got to see things for your spiders pictures what kind of cord you want to look at I thought this for the time being with a very basic snapshot into how did you ask her how to do this right and we can we can move forward with more data looking backwards more which I'm kind of already working on curly but that's that's what we have I thought the nice not overwhelm you with numbers right there and I started to do that with the elementary already so actually a lot of times doesn't doesn't change actually time Deptford it doesn't actually change the time because we can move into that like people that are about the right so they kind of really like I think I did it for I was just doing it just the other night for a fourth and fourth grade I think they're fifth grade I think it dropped this to like 17.3 it doesn't do anything drastic to the data because we had some that were so moved into work right got it is kind of it is kind of weird because so that really push things in a weird direction as far as I say really interesting how you see that score after that covid year for the ice especially that next year it's very interesting so say I have that but that really doesn't throw a wrench into the 5-year by Zachary type thing so like I said that is the one time that's what we take in met and Mark April. Miss getting to going to talk more about that in your life. you did remember how the  do I know online for now even the writing waiting the waiting that they put on the writing piece of it and the language bees gone up over the last two years so I can this year is now an even 50/50 split between reading and writing basically and language worth before it was not that even of a split and how they waited so yeah and then be a mistake cancel the training any kids how to type in Google Docs give me kids how to do all that cuz it is typing for them I mean it's all that kind of stuff they're on the computer they're just writing a college or whatever else you know now I do want to show you just so you are aware be a method a resource so I'll just wait a little bit about these so this is a man high school did not take a math right now open to change out that we taking some type of diagnostic screen dipstick type test next year anyway so we will have data for the high school next year we get to this part of it is a masterly mastic Shirley Mass for K1 and then everybody else to it above is all a mess okay now what they do is they take a test three times do that the spring window is actually still open right now you will see get to reading 5th grade actually not quite done their finishing this week on the schedule so they are finishing some of them this week when it comes to testing OK Google we use this a lot less as far as you can ask questions afterwards cuz that that's part of what she's talk about how we use these tests all the time like right away like we get this information and in a lot of us will use this kind of stuff right away to the classroom tell different students to do things this is more screening so this is used to help the school right now a lot of guys detail about that. This is just math if you have any questions about that until the first time you seen it so I can look at it if you have any questions on it what is banza map Urban the Middle School Elementary and high school in dealing with Matt in a new way to think about how we're teaching math in the Middle School Rob Mr Fraser has been on that committee as well as henna paste from the Middle School mr. Bigler from high school and get weight loss from the elementary is Heather I will be upset in the Middle School Goshen we work a lot on standards-based clusters things like that in the end bass so we actually are pretty excited about kind of the direction we're going with Matthew and I was very excited with what she's doing at the middle school and I think it's going to be a very good change that will help them a lot to get the standards spots in the proper deal came level so we talked about death of knowledge Allah. talking about these kind of things where the ice a Steven is designated in at the okay one which is all week on memorization your old school type of just that's the way the old test really used to be a lot of that used to be a lot of recall on a memorization okay now that they switch. a lot different questions now they're moving into more depth of knowledge to which is more conceptual thinking why you're more having to apply something okay or depth of knowledge which is more critical thinking I understand that you're having to compare it you're going to do a lot of different things okay so these tests now we're getting more and more depth of knowledge where you have to really get to that level where is what we're doing her nap is it's problem-based at Brannon we're going to problems which they're going to have to actually think critically a lot more nice part is we're already heading a shift in a direction that will kind of help this issue so there's a lot of different ways that if they're cast realize that we've all had it where you see it well that's where they will go into something we call progress monitoring and we have different tests so we can give them on a week-to-week basis that we kind of see are they check okay they actually are smart enough to ask you performed well they do not count then they do better on the next test and they're good to go so we have multiple avenues that we go to think it's kind of like they had a bad day and these are more than a little bit but it's it's something were to just with the suitability and I'm sure she'll talk about that a little bit in Pahrump it it kind of is more accurate than you thinking that wrong because it's truly getting to a kid of you miss this question last time I'm getting another question or two about that to see if he missed it because he didn't do it or he just got it wrong I accidentally you know you made August 8th so with that it's no longer though the test where you just had two questions about fractions to questions about decimals to questions about this it's now you have two questions about fractions they got the first and the second one is better throw another fraction question to see I truly understand or not they are completely so these ones are and that's the nice know about any math and everything in those because they have made these told us where it is it is it has proven to be fairly accurate in results now I suppose I get what you're saying no because it supposed to the old test where you have one day where you're mistaken if you see I do not understand it or not National Bank MPS with math you'll notice right here this score is anticipatory so I didn't make this anticipatory based on where they were proficient the winter so I look to see if they been for fishing in the winter I kind of sounded dumb is proficient just that's why I put that little after that exact that everything holds true to Oakley what work were thinking it should again this one thing about the elementary when you're talking about a reading a lot of times these tests are reported to the same things like that they're healthy indicators that we use all the time for the elementary a reading a reading is actually Marcel I will show you that bad here for the elementary Morrison in just a second that this is a reading explain the difference is, I like that have different questions if you eat berries yeah and that is one thing you're talking about early chatterley reading every time they take these tests for a 13k as well if there's a pre-kindergarten test an item special you Heather who's done that. I'm forever different they're different because they found the first one but then they're taking nonsense words and then they're taking sight words in the turn on K1 take that progression from fall to winter to Spring you kind of take the progression and almost throw it away because I'm K1 it doesn't really matter in that sets other one yes they are the Adaptive test that that work the same way then came one they don't work that way good question about the Aztec the clear. jump jump jump and those other people will they know extreme Colin is still the one that jumped both math and a reading they were way better in the fall what do you want I mean drop that much. The question is I want to get the answer to little bit ago and I don't know if that's something that I've been going through things like that also we start talking about this these texts after I sent the bomb and with this with the cognitive demand of the ice a specimen it's a two-hour test done sitting there doing things you don't do it it could have to leave no idea that you can answer that I have to probably we have to look in I told him to look into that and try to figure out a reason why that might be get into content areas ice ask this is just this is like our first look and we ask the same questions you like what's going on this is like data like this is like spring testing for a lot of them like you see 5th grade I am quite done yet this is like as you see it last week or so were there so I got to get all those type of pepper diamonds what is an observation right that's something that we do have to look at it Elementary for the test will be an accurate rifle checks lutein actually which is which is one of the biggest things that proves as you can if you're a good reader and can comprehend and do things that I am not the master of these readings heating thermostat that what they are but this text Lucy and accuracy is the reading first grade the first time ever take it is the winter and it is included as part of the early reading score as well I remember correctly this is something you need absolutely a lot of working Elementary this year has been dealt around bounce and understanding the proper way to be by the proper way to send out word read words cancel all those things so there's other data pieces we used to help with this in the elementary that are like I could show you there all different grades to put in their data walls phonics routines Pocus Abbey Elementary's a this year led by kind of great questions on that one that's pretty much all I just wanted to show you guys I appreciate you wanted to show you all day reading all the aim at what it was but we are. Hopefully you got a little better understanding that's worse than what these creatures are so you can go when you're looking at it you got it no understand and we can talk about you kind of had an idea as well as any last questions thank you for letting us talk through everything that we're going to talk to her some of you and excited to answer your questions please ask and I was asked to come here tonight to just get an update on the 4th and 5th grade and hamburger and so that's what we'll be talking about today I really think about every time I do a slight I try to look at our district unlink everything we do back to this you remember this is our updated District Michigan where we added that Community piece so that's why it's something like night is so important because we need explaining all of the details and taking the time to ask a question let's look a little bit at the timeline of events so last winter which one I was thinking through this years ago but we talked about kind of that idea that we had our board approve merger in the winter in the spring we started to make our PLC teams were form so that was Chelsea is our professional learning communities so what teachers were going to tease in that fourth in that Citrus so lot of time after havenstrite and I spent quite a bit of time working and I'm who we believed would make up the pills ATMs that we wanted for this work and then we also took time to talk about the content Focus what teachers would be the best at what you do if you love what you do and then in the summer lots of working at to happen so our 4th and 5th grade team started to look at our standards do a lot of understanding of what they were teaching what does 4th grade standards look like what's the standard look like and then we began with new so this year all of almost all of our literacy resources were new in our elementary school which is very interesting because it usually shows that it takes up early gears for your letter C your the resources to catch up to see success Mary able to see see success right away so we tried a lot of our work to the resources that we had they're very routine base the 4th grade teachers and I spent some time with them and noodles later one of the things they shared a bit about was having resources that were high-quality that routine with the kids knew what to expect every day I'm very rigorous and then so we just don't waste a lot of time working on their own in the summer on their own spending time on track in the fall we came together and then all winter all fall and winter they were working and they're plc's we had wind, so when timing is what I need at school we have what's a wind time for a grade where the students we really identify what is it they need do they need some work with math intervention we'll talk about how we know what they mean but this was an doctor and then we started looking at standards-based grading how to move it to another level really important to remember is that you want it always make your scrub so we don't want to just get comfortable with having our kids respect mark because many of your test name you never talk about 40% and then in the spring we took her eyes off this afternoon and now we're reflecting and we're playing for next year do I need to talk with you through assessment functions to help what are the questions that you were asking before so there's four different assessment I want to talk about tonight there's outcome which you also me here called summative they're screening assessment Diagnostic and formative they're all part of the whole puzzle tonight we're really talking about that one key so if we look here we're looking a lot tonight at our outcome are Summit it and why are we looking at that at the school board meeting because that's what measures are Sun outcome assessment is never intended necessarily to sit down and save you you know this and you know this is going to help us it's intended to measure a system into a cell so I do I'm in Therese cool we have a goal that we will be 80% perfect we're starting I really thought we would take us a couple of years to get there and that's happening much more quickly which is very exciting so if we look at that we will be staying assessment of our core is our resources and materials and what our core is this is for me and see what our kids are learning what it is we're teaching here called Universal part what all of our sins are getting that's where we talked about those assessments so summative assessment outcome-based for your Iowa Statewide assessment of student that is different than when we took Iowa Test of Basic skill they did make that change because it used to be before when they were paper pencil they were not able to be a duck so it has changed and they are a lot more the death of knowledge just like mr. Harrison talked about is completely different than it wasn't completely different in science on the ice ask we don't even they're not even a recall on even one of the form do in elementary really get 35 only here but all the other things so this is kind of that we major we are so sorry for our outcome but are screaming this is the fact that she was talking about the screening is imagine you do like you're putting it through your seeing just at first what is a cat what are we catching commercials what are red flags what's standing outside if 27 kids in your class to 24 kids might come to our attention that they could have any Universal screening identifies highly discrepant skills is consistent so every 3rd grader gets the same thing across the state of Iowa school and it's Timely it doesn't take very long every one of her students get a reading for dinner every one of her students give him a screen does Chris has been around since I want to say 2013 and so it was a big it was a huge change education with Aspirin when I was a first grade teacher a long time ago prior to that bridge we didn't have a universal screening system you were kind of and so there are a lot of students that I believe didn't does Lipton packs and we didn't have a straightener or so we were always screen everything and some kids can play for really well and it looks like they were doing fine so from that the screen is kind of like taking your temperature if you haven't seen her then we do a diagnostic that's when we go a little bit deeper in your blood okay so we know something may be wrong what's figure out what it is so are fancy words that we use here you're an elementary teacher you know that the qts is your quick phonics cream or your PSI is your phone illogical screener so we're really digging deeper were being weird alien destruction Gaiden instruction the lowest you'll benefit so we had a lot of focus on there may be a lot of reasons that you have a fever but we're looking for the one that we want to capture first and then build up from there and in your final piece is your formative this is like your physical therapy your exercise your eating good food this is everyday all the time I'm going Bailey informal it can be as informal as right on white were the answers don't mean as a teacher right on white or it can be a half a sheet exit to get everybody's going to answer this question these are the things that are gay this is not good so we don't look at ice Aspen say okay now I know exactly what to do a group like this these are the boots on the ground things that the students are doing are the teachers are doing everyday and make decisions about how to help kids that what I mean we've given our screener and then if we see some red flags we diagnosed and then we spent time on that and then we progress monitor that I'm going and we watch it until we can go up to the next day and then the next day and the next day so it's like a meeting about it follow your outcome assessment is really big 10,000 view screening Diagnostic and reform it is happening all the time everyday every possible so when we look at our date but we talked about with mr. Harrison again we are looking at this as as building leaders and ours are instructional leadership teams and where we're looking at this ice Aspen saying okay this is our outcome measure how are we feeling about arcore where we have read we have questions so that means we need to look at our core so again we wouldn't figure out what each student knows we was examine what are core and how is it being delivered and then that's where coaching comes in so sometimes someone they say was instruction this so sometimes the teacher can have the same exact materials and we can deliver them in a different way and it's that way of delivery that changes things from red to Green so I can give you a treadmill but if you're not using it that's for instructional coaching comes with a solid instructional coaches you changed and that's in this is where the teacher evaluation why is it so important that I do teacher evaluation to be monitoring does material RV used in the type of way and being administered The Way We Were so anytime you look at something you have your quantitative data and qualitative data so we talked about some of the quantitative you've seen some numbers and now I want to talk a little bit about just a koala just how do people feel what year and so I did a survey to our teachers and I asked them with an anonymous survey I'd ask him some basic question how do you feel this year has gone what do you believe it's been this your success what would you want the school board to know and it came I tried to just kind of take some departmentalization was here they are here tonight if you have them they will tell you and same to you. When do tops it being able to be a Content expert and what they T has made a big difference it's typing on Entry School because you teach every subject especially challenging me your teacher 4th and 5th grade in your conscience starts to get really dense and very rigorous so our teachers now in fourth grade have opportunity to really or really haunted credit our science course that were 76% to being Department of Education our science teacher has been heizen is first-year teacher classroom teacher and I were in school on time and we I didn't forget about 50% the Science Focus her energy in science and then I'm planning and reflecting Dave our teachers will tell you that it was in the hallway it was a lunch after school before school was unfortunate is if you're not in the same group then you don't you may be illegal each other every other Monday every Monday but each other all the time I'm consistent curriculum and assessment 5th grade math teacher every single fifth-grader was getting the same and so sent it wasn't just based on which teacher do a doorway and what school you're at but the same thing the same assessment or 4th grade teachers who were here to hear tonight they said they plan to take a look at the supplement together high expectations I will tell you that the 4th and 5th grade team step very high expectations and they believe that all students are capable of cheating at high levels if you were to break down our access data we had a lot of into a lot of odds against and meet proficiency is because they believe that they got an instructional research educational research you will hear the word Collective efficacy there's a lot of different medicine houses that is done over the years and if you read anything about a visible learning and any other work with John Hattie he's a researcher that studies what makes a difference but what difference in school is collective efficacy means we believe and it's as simple as that I believe her for 5 you believe they can do it I'm from the students the same thing I gave a fourth grade and fifth grade survey those are funny funny one try to take something I'm having more than one teacher who said I love to get up and move in the same room all day I like to learn from different teachers my teachers funny on teachers the compare and they really actually said this themself expert-level teachers so you think about it is when you're going are you going to miss your face. You're right and it feels like being at school with teammates cousins cousins and partners of being role models for the younger students and having a lot more herbal I heard that a lot highlights from family so I just kind of took emails that I've gotten over the last couple of months some of the highlights new friendships are kids I've never met before academic row I have a j m sent me an email and she wanted to be able to share a few things she said she was very hesitant about the merger will be honest about that very worried about Transportation or daughter is hygiene and stupid and she believes she is definitely grown as a learner and would tell you be able to tell you that we have teachers at right 4th and 5th grade team top not the same thing communication for example of 4th grade they all have one Facebook group that's coming from Ruggles right now I'm not going to tell you the perfect not you'll see on the next light it's not but it is where many parents I have a note here from Kaylee Sebring and she shared I believe that my daughter that my son is able to work to this morning as a 4th grader that he would have got the sixth grade either or three younger and start sooner and makes friendships so those are some of the pieces of he got her family I'm next. Again I would be lying and I wouldn't be so you say that we have it all figured out we don't we are still many are reflecting a lot we're thinking all the time about how to get better our students voice we need more plants base they really dislike they miss the Monroe playground they missed the Green Grass and so we have been kind of what do we do our playground he is not meant for older kids we are adding additional literacy teacher in 5th grade so this year Misty our science teacher is going to be a literacy teacher with mr.
