yes Chelsea barrentine yeah Jeremy say Peter yes Brian Vander Camp yes Steve Van Meir and Kylie Lewis any motion to approve the agenda second correspondence good news several things you see there in your board packet we've had very giving spirit around here which has been awesome we have the donations and the number of different kinds of fundraising things I know the birthday box is getting those bills was was fun we had a whole table full of stuff and all the little kids in they were putting together birthday boxes with people uh the Middle School advisor classes you see the other over 800 non perishable items for a food pantries another fun little fundraiser and I know um we commented on this in in 1 of our recent meetings you're seeing more fundraisers this year but that's really because we're getting them in front of you I mean a lot of these little 1 offs were happening but we weren't really following policy in terms of the board seeing all that so good examples what happened at Curry City Elementary there uh with the the jingle jars contest you know just collecting change and it's amazing what you can do with that and you see they raised over 1,200 for the playground equipment high school locker rooms again we express appreciation before to our boosters for that they look really good that was a booster funded and then we always appreciate those donations we get toward Food Service negative negative accounts that kind of thing we've had several of those again you're just recently so those are the things that were just in your packet uh encourage you if you don't follow along on our district Facebook page you should do that there's there's a lot of great things that uh Kathy gets put up there follow along with for example we had uh dear essay winners lately and students of the week here you know Elementary and things like that so like anybody else has good news to share please do but I just want to reach out in the back down to committee update uh some of this committee will be voting wait room temperature generously donated 35,000 to the top Christy Lindsay is this year like say thank you very much much needed project all brand new equipment much more efficient use of space much safer it's also going to be painted project so we'll be working on that later some other projects here with us here they're all veterans still waiting on the top left but I think Rossi said that we just noting as well sometimes it's so much the softball ones are coming here also finance that expenditures but it's like the accounting expenditures around and Tanya is using software to look at how our budget Works see look at the next year so this company enrolling see so that's all really good because in the past we had a big reactionary that's all I have we didn't have a policy maybe committing me because um we have a second reading of uh medication policy we're going to get the first reading to no changes that's needing later and the other policy primer updates is as our policy members got policy committee members got an email is literally just change in nervous so when we get to that point uh if you want to wave the second reading on those we just keeps an address and just kind of clear the deck all the policies that I'm saying all right thank you everybody for consent agenda by question know that right there special ed you guys are doing it Elementary and Middle School how is that I see you're combining more 328 just what's the what do you see in the benefits of that the real the real benefit is we're able to use all of our special ed teachers instead of being separated into the middle school where we have 2 specialized teachers and the Have Nots sure of that degree because there might be way more elementary students that need Express the services and so we're able to kind of say we're just going to call ourselves a 38 special ed team and so to be able to school has more gaps in their schedule that we can fill with some of these elementary kids it takes a little bit of restraint out of them so all of our special ed teachers are their case load is designated by how many points they have and when Jenny sat down and looked at it and then brought it to me our elementary student our elementary special education teachers their point load was quite a bit higher than the Middle School teachers and I want to do is make that all so basically just yeah and we we really paired up on some of our significant disabilities with the what we felt was the right teacher who did some realignment students and so uh making them create program like I said instead of setting up so um it's gone really well with centrioles came together quickly the students have transitioned nicely um I have consulted Middle yes it's coming over to the link area and so it's it's kind of good it was a seamless transition when you came out after bank so that transition from business I know about special ed in your eye it probably wouldn't bother you but can people change during a year from a 1 level to another yeah as long as they meet the um licensure so we you know we chat like we put these new students with this is Cooper for instance because she had the licensure to be able to give the altesse test but other teachers in the sped teachers can't do that so we had to look at licenses to say you can do what where's the best place for these kids what about on the other end students move to oh yeah we look students all the time she basically utilizing what you have back utilizing staff and really facilitating too you know and I think just there's no reason the link and the proximity that they need to be silent and when you have administrators who do a great job of working together to really has been very soon I feel like some of our teachers are teaching more to their strengths areas too so and you know the kids are getting better um I feel like they're getting better quality and more quality instruction and they're in their goals through their STI time and so um his teachers right we really paired up students to teach her strength areas so it sounds like a positive change so thank you for doing that in the fall and I'm like well why not do it now let's just rip the Band-Aid off and they were all on board getting together and like I said the schedules came together yeah you know taking uneasy steps at first but all right let's try it yeah so far so good emotion I'll make a motion brief a motion all of the favorites and thank you everybody for your updates we can check those down to model trial sharing uh yeah Jeremy is not here to address this but basically we we have a student who wants to participate in mock trial and the ability to share with Knoxville at no charge really no downside to this is an opportunity for our student but we need more approval for both districts to do that no problem second to approve that trial change agreement with all those in favor say I I high school week here's kind of the the big Tech item for tonight and you know we have we have vetted this uh pretty well through facility ities committee for a couple months and and lot of Duty little update today too on that uh we do have a loose we got this here as well as our booster leaders and uh they could certainly answer any questions but I think Rod did of highlighting the benefits uh the reasons you know it's probably overdue uh it's something that is is going to benefit all of our programs as well as our PV department and the design is is very well thought out in terms of maximum in space and have to be safer and that would be new equipment and then uh there's opportunity to repurpose some of the equipment I think in the middle school as well I think we'll be sharing our last facilities committee meeting um so Mike just just leave it to the board if you have questions and want to ask Luke or Rusty or the boosters about process or decision or anything open the floor to you if you have questions then I think the only thing I'd ask Jeremy is if it was um the waiter resistance so much that the ladies and the guys all feel in their range of expectation so that was just a guide question I can answer that so we do have um heavier and lighter barbells in there they'll have a range of weights and 2 and a half pounds all the way to 45 pounds accommodate you know athletes slash they have anything else I guess I'd like to thank everybody for the hard work on this that thanks for asking for getting voting viable having problems with the quote for the pains and like that yeah we need to add the painting to that number yes quote will be for 41 I Don't Know 4277535 we can make a motion coming up soon I think that I'll make a motion we approve the the painting and the waiting room Department uh boosters are going to donate 35,000 and we're going to make up the the 4277535 motion second to the high school those in favor say I thank you very much yeah it's the cool trip for you to answer 1 question we appreciate I appreciate the boosters donation yeah yeah which I know the board is is talking more about the importance of a couple fun and the fact that the community has been supported with that and that's that's property tax money and it's nice for them to see you know how that benefits kids yeah these are dollars that were voted by the public to put towards Improvement so if we need to use them okay we'll move on down to school calendar Aaron has done a lot of work on this I can just kind of give you give you an overview and then what we need to do tonight is to is to set the hearing date for that and the 1 to put the um the examples in front of you that the actual approval of a won't be tonight we accept the hearing date um the process that was followed was I worked to to create 4 different calendars which actually was it's it's kind of tough because uh there gives me choices as you might think you know because the legislature doesn't let us start before August 23rd uh which actually is a Saturday next August and I guess they could have thrown 1 out there where we started on Saturday but I didn't like that and then we have uh you know we have local things like uh Spring Break um you know people like to have I think kids done before Memorial Day you know so we start putting in this restrictions uh try to make sure that you have adequate professional development which works out to you know roughly 1 day a month um and then you know 1 thing I I was trying to do as well in building those was to try to maximize instructional time students day and try to to layer in a few more student days where we could um but we have 187 teacher days to work with too because they have 198 contracts in 3 paid holidays so you know when you throw all those things together there's actually a lot less flexibility of building the calendar and you but uh I did come up with 4 different options took them to the contrary to pull admin team who helped me kind of tweaked a few little things um and also narrowed down narrowed down to 3 options which are what you see in the packet and then uh because we you know we had a winner where we were hired superintendent and a few other things I didn't convene a calendar too many but we still wanted to make sure the board Heard a Voice for the staff so we just put all 3 options out and uh and collecting staff votes on those there's a clear preference you can see there uh for the first calendar which actually is quite similar to this year as you look at them so you you have that knowledge going into to want to make a decision uh Aaron did a wonderful job of formatting much better with uh with those spreadsheets than I am I leaving anything out of the process or even we should add in administrative around and I don't think so I sent a Google form to every single employee so everybody had a chance to vote and as you can see obviously not everybody did but but every every single person did have the chance to build on 1 so I assume the rest of them out of preference nobody um spoke to me or said everything was negative experience raised at all with the process a lot of the choices are related to the teacher Improvement days and stuff so that's really the differences yeah and what it looks like the choice has about 10 and a half days built in there's no days you know so the action tonight is just to set uh which 1 and then we'll and then we'll set uh here and date so which 1 they want to move forward but and then the next action item would be to separate in time which could be the next yes my recommendation is like 5:45 um on the 17th so we have time for hearing people I'll make a motion to move forward with option 1 motion and second for Option 1 all those in favor say I set the public hearing date suggestion is 5:45 on February 1 7 that's yeah that's that's our regular board meeting night we just have the hearing this public hearing for the school calendar on Monday February 17th at 5:45 the motion second the public hearing for the 2520 Monday February the 17th March board meeting a couple reasons for this to make lots of sense 1 is which we break uh during your normal board meeting week the other is as we're looking at the uh publication dates as we start to prepare budget um that that meeting the 24th will fall within the window of we need to get things to the newspaper and and bring to you um I leave I leave it to Becky telling you to figure it out it's like not not less than 10 days not more than 20 days and then they know what the paper publishes and so I trusted that they told me the 24th words yeah second Motion in a second the departs school board meeting Monday March 20th say I down to fundraisers so that these are in progress or advertised uh the jiggle drive 1 is complete were here Mike have information on some of these if you need information any I saw 1 on Facebook at your Valentine Day cookies order to your sweethearts take questions and leave those ers presented all those in favor say I yeah the lead Center uh we have 1 student in this this special program and uh you previously approved uh them participating in that and then we uh in the course of communicating with the program they kind of sent out a reminder don't forget to claim your administrative cost which we haven't done so that's the amount right there so this is all reimbursed cost yes um and anytime you have a when you at school budget Review Committee anytime we have a chance to um to get more spending Authority like we came to you special ed deficit for example or for uh English learners you know anytime you can get spending Authority we want to that we have to have the approval of every 1 of those requests so that's we have 1 right here cost all of the favor say I policy 5 move 7.02 and 517.421 just just to remind you where this came from you you resented uh a policy we had that got put in a couple of July ago sort of without our our nurses knowledge and it wasn't reflected in what we're doing and it wasn't required so we presented that there was still a reference to that in this other policy we have on medication administration so that was the major change was striking that and then we did add um we had in the sentence too that uh you know we we had right to um you know to stock medication if if legally allowed um the other thing that came with this was the exhibits we actually had 3 different um forms or medication administration none of the 3 which we were using uh and so we put in as an exhibit 1 that nurses are actually using which again is is legal and works but uh this will be an example of our our policy practice we will not aligned at all and when you have that situation then you know you can change the policy change the brightness so that's that's what this 1 was you you approved the first reading there haven't been any changes since you including and the other set as I mentioned earlier uh Aaron gets a policy prior from ISB and literally that was like the the address in the office was the extent of those changes so I don't know if you you probably want 2 different motions I guess 1 per second reading and then for that other set you could approve them and wait a second reading and we could just update you choose to go 57.02 and by second approved the policy Craig said all those in favor say I um on 102 get to the right spot here actually 401.01 40128 no before but in the first quarter we really followed us the school district will take affirmative action and major job categories of women men memorials and personal disabilities are under represented yes if you follow that that's becoming a little out of date and and this yeah I mean this this is the current law yeah yeah I rip up your superintendent but I'm not going to say no you're not following the law and the second 1 was on chronic absenteeism is a question I think it's the law I just don't understand you know after you've been absent for what 10% or something like that correct automatically goes or goes to a different a little confused about I think it's 15% when we have and principles might chime in here 15% were required to have this mediation meeting uh they're 10% triggers a registered letter or certified letter by certified mail and um you know we did a lot of work and and kudos to Kathy here this fall this guidance came to schools like literally the day before school and uh we had a lot of Department of Education guidance on this uh it was not a radical change for us in practice is a little bit of change in language so we wouldn't confuse parents where we're emphasizing exempt and non-exempt reasons now we've sort of stricken excused and unexcused out of our vocabulary a little bit because that's not the legal language anymore so we had to tweak uh some of the timelines a little bit um and and some of the language and then we put out you might recall we put out a handbook addendum just to kind of update the board approved um there could be further changes coming for this as as the legislature figures out what's not really working my real question was if I have a personal with chronic absenteeism your Bachelor chronic medical that requires that I didn't see whether it was in the exception or the ability to do yeah it is okay in fact now this this is a big change from your past but in years past every time you went to the doctor it was considered an absence now if a student produces a doctor's note it's actually actually it's it's an exemption so that actually does not go toward that 10% anymore so actually it's a little bit more lenient than it was before okay by 1211 um and but those children who are have chronic illnesses they are protected there are there are sessions for all of those as long as the parent provides that documentation I will say that you noticed probably that we do at 10% contact with the county attorney they don't do anything until 20% like we just are legally required to let them know kind of put them this on a radar but it's not until 20% that they actually are trying to do anything and we're not even sure what they that's in their hands at that point okay thank you do you have any questions any of the Primal updates so if you do want another month with them we can just go first reading if you're 5 would be updates you can make your motion to approve and weigh the second reading we want to do it thank you oh did you say to improve the updates and wave the second rate yes second grade policy primary updates and waves second reading all those in favor say I I I superintendent I think I've kind of talked throughout I don't have anything really more uh Beyond I guess I give me 1 little update that didn't make this did I mention the policy or excuse me the finance um talk to your Gilbert and I did go up to noon today and tell them where a conversation about what insurance Transportation director might look like and uh we've talked before about Tucker's designer to to give us those administrative duties and and focus on his mechanic work uh looks like that that will work but we're we're figuring some things out so stay tuned and this spring as we continue to conversations about what that might look like um I'll update you again I said earlier and I'll say again I'm glad to talk instead of okay is it by anything else no sir Becker sitting there so I'd like to thank you for coming yeah thank you thanks for having me no I say thanks to everybody that part of the hiring process that uh you put your trust in me to be your next superintendent here um really excited to to eventually get to PCM uh but this is you'll see me hopefully a lot of the school meetings leading up to July as part of my entry plan to kind of just get a feel of of things that are happening within the district and get to know people in relationship building and uh but I I am disappointed though that coming down here it's not 24 5 degrees warmer 2 hour delays out there tomorrow but I was hoping for that well sure this is the aberration you look 70 you're supposed to bring the weather with us Side Story do you know a horrible spring of whether that I interviewed with sunny and 70 they said remember me as the guy who brought sunny and 17 to get all as we worked a little
