believe it or not would you like me shein yeah right okay all we need order just give me a moment need a motion to approve the agenda so all in favor say I first I have is Urban divorce no I'm here on behalf of the girls wrestling proposal for tonight um I met with Mr swink a few and a couple things I said in the conversation was this is the time to do this if we don't I honestly feel that it'll never happen we have the group of girls the athletes the community support that make this happen right now um if we do make it happen we have bigger programs out of the gate and some schools around us even have been 2 3 years in uh I know there's issues about where we would practice facilities and stuff like that transportation we will make that work BCM is always come forward we made things work we can do it but this is the time we have the support we have the girls um kind of the old saying you build it they will come we start this we will have a good program thank you thank you am I correct hi everyone uh my name is Emma crop so I work at the American Lung Association under the state's tobacco prevention Grant um we cover everything from uh giving presentations to students to encourage them not to use tobacco and vaping products to working with Community providers um we serve 8 different counties Jasper County be 1 of them and so I'm here today to just kind of highlight some of stuff we've been working on um so 1 of the big things we're working on just in general in our work in the state is to comprar comprehensively address tobacco youth tobacco use and vaping and so we do that through youth activism education policy change prevention intervention and cessation and there are several programs with that including my life my quit which is the youth tobacco and vaping cessation program um and then I step which is the Iowa students for tobacco education and prevention we also work with schools to meet their needs where they are and so I've been in this role for 2 and a half years now I want to say so I have some notes from before I was here but I have mainly notes from um uh what I've able to work on so for the last 4ish fiscal years we've been able to provide on Red Ribbon Week materials so um whether that be coloring sheets or educational lessons to the schools um to be used at their own time um we've also um I've also participated in the health advocacy day at the high school a couple of times and it's been great to engage with students there and provide them resources uh and then I've also previously given a presentation to 1 of the high school counselors and we've been able to ified a bunch of um physical resources to the schools and I believe next year I'll be working with the health teacher on some presentations on Tobacco and vaping to some seventh grade students um that's just kind of the gist of it we work on a lot of other stuff in the county and in our service area um but we feel it's really important to update you guys on kind of what some of our work looks like in the schools and what we're going to be working towards as far as that comprehensive approach um so that's all I have thank you very much I appreciate you getting moved to Good News several things in your packet there had a good spring Sports season as you know we mentioned I think last meeting might have been the same day I can't remember a boy's got a fourth state in golf good contingent of boys and girls track athletes at State uh Riley greyber was an 400 meter Champion uh through PCM we had a nice uh recognition years of service and retirees on May 30th a couple of you were able to get there and a third 1 tribe we locked her out but uh that that was nice we uh we got to recognize people who you know long long term employees with the district starting with 5 years and then every 5 years up and very nice uh bunch of dedicated uh retirees as well Marion Smith Diana Shannon Brad Hill Christy T boldar dose recognized for 45 years in the district which is awesome and uh then also the good news you had mentioned there uh you got a little preview of The Orchard portrait of graduate video last meeting too but uh that's that's being rolled out as well as a web page for that uh so that that's exciting work I think that captures well how PCMS preparing their kids uh other good news I'm not over over things that people want to mention um I have to see boys baseball play and I want to say cept Taylor Stadium the principal part yeah yeah so that was a pretty good opportunity for everybody and just kind of neat to see sand all right we're going down to Comedia updates I'm going to have to wait on I think we designated Kelce or Chelsea told me I had to do it again we spent time we talked about the bills and they didn't see any problems with those we uh look at our investment account again and uh maybe you feel good and bad at the same time that we didn't do it sooner about 29,000 265 just keep going up um that's good we talked about the insurance renewal that's coming up and what that means for us as well as the storm Protection Program that's coming into the state um to help us so that uh we had a disaster it's uh not going to wipe us out and 1 thing I want to report was the Personnel report I know the board for a long time we've been asking for reasons why people left for years and pleased to say that the reasons are on but most of them they're now that's nice we we need white people are staying white people are leaving so whoever is possible that thank you okay thank you we'll move on down to consent think in that emotion when they ready that I'm curious if the elementary where is everybody going City Elementary you said you have 9 room changes yeah we made a lot of people around and everything is football they're good um LC 2 of my third grade teachers room to fifth grade and in the fourth grade teacher remember the third grade and we're converting a third grade classroom into a STEM Science room since it's going to be open um this is um Perkins moved across the hall I moved to spread teacher into her room and we spent into that we just the anything you say we just a big thing anything the same just your report that had the the room set aside specifically for science yeah that's what I like that idea yeah we've had an extra classroom and so on this is Frederickson came up with the idea that we can because we have gotten a lot of robots and turning Toddlers and all of the stem stuff but to set it up in a classroom when you're teaching multiple things is difficult so um flip-flops so the tables so there's tables in there we've got all the science tones they were actually there soring them today and so everything will be organized and then science teachers can go in ahead of the class periods and set everything up or an experiment or for um The Turning Tumblers or the roast whenever they want to use and they'll have a space to do it leave it set up for the next class that they have so they're not constantly tearing down and setting up so we're real excited about that look like all the windows were delivered yeah they were working installing today I know they're working though I'll make a motion to approve second we have a motion and second for the consent agenda all in favor say I any opposed motion down to committee recommendation we got to say something about transportation department yeah yeah Tucker been really good at working with us with his changing circumstances Parenthood and then changed around and working with us to make it make it work for us and him both but sometimes unusual I think we'll work with like that yeah and he was from the very first conversation too it was very clear that he he loved working here wants to keep working here and uh from my standpoint I really wanted to make it work for him too that's good so we've got we've got an item on that uh a little bit later too we can talk more about that and now we decided maybe recommendations all right so we have had our regular 3 meetings that you're required to have throughout the year um dealing with Sak and it deals with everything from data looking at numbers uh getting as you know we talked very beginning about who was on that site committee um we ended up with probably every meeting about somewhere between 10 and 15 people there um community members and things like that so it created some nice discussion and some nice things for us to think about in looking forward to next year um so with that you can read through it I'm not going to go through everything here um but you can read through they just talked a lot we talked a lot about data so a lot about what they would like to see approved where they would like to see improvements being now of course it's not them you know they would bring it back maybe principals Administration and things like that and then throw it on the plan for next year because discuss heavily with where the year starts um but the heavy 1 was like math and Elementary and high school uh science which is going to change anyway with new standards coming out anyway coming out um seeing grades consistently move up instead of being all over the place if you look at our eyes as that it's very hard to see Trends in a lot of ways because they'll be up up for 3 years down for 2 up again up higher than they were before for 2 more years then very very interesting right the data for that is hard to decipher sometimes um but 1 thing they they said is the general theme is at least 80% proficiency um across the board with Isis data or at least showing significant growth to close the gap if they're lower than that so that'll be something will focus on on next year um in looking at that to go along with that aside another big part of course the last 2 years has been the portrait of a graduate uh slowly but surely keep making progress with that of course the videos that have come out with the principals in them and all those things and just then absolutely fantastic um so that's done a nice job of showing what we already are doing um 1 thing they talked about is now just taking the next step and just keep moving forward and not forgetting about it in the future so that that's something with that uh organized bullying and harassment type of update to them looking at board policy on that and nothing for shattering in that realm um and then to the Future 1 thing that that a lot of them mentioned for the future for next year and the year they really like to see Advanced Learners really dive into what we're doing for advanced Learners throughout which I know we're already doing some things but they just may not know or you know say they have an elementary student they don't know what's being done at the middle school high school just getting more into the advanced Learners and what what were the path is and what the options are for them going forward and what they're doing and the facts are not the classroom and so on and so forth um so those were some of those recommendations for Sak and what to look at okay thank you for um with the student learning data review yes me again um so that's the ISS status so if you pull it up you all should have that information again this was actually I think attached the last 4 meeting they had in May that was the day we qualified for state in the golfing so I didn't did not make it back in time for that meeting um so you probably had time to delve through it time to look at it um every report we have is still on demand so parents can't settle they got parents until it's actually published reports so they aren't technically published unless they've been published in the last week or 2 which I have not seen um but parents will get that information coming up soon as soon as we can send that link out to them and it's actually published um but I just like to go through on this as you're looking through it just so there's no confusion on what the colors mean and what the how to look at those graphs so if you have it up on your screens right now uh page page kind of 2 there where it says proficiency see it says grade level building isas data this is just going through what it all is proficiency is a total number of students who are proficient to the total numbers who took the test okay so that that's kind of how you find proficiency um when you look at the la scores that is half writing half reading direct 50/50 split um in those scores so it is possible for somebody to be not proficient in writing proficient reading and still professional overall we're will not professional overall just depends where they fell on both of those okay just so that makes sense to everybody when you're looking at that part as well so we're looking at this uh the science portion of it why is there only 1 grade 3 to yeah so there's only 1 grade reading they only do testing in fifth 8th and 10th grade in science um then that way if you're so that's why that data when you're looking at like comparables as far as percent change you're really comparing apples to oranges and they're totally different set of queries in that to go along with that predominantly speaking the sign scores don't look greater predominantly speaking since they changed the science tests around in the last probably 5 years science is always significantly lower than other content areas and you can look at those high performance like anchoring and all the I mean there's science is always way below what their other ones are um just the way it is um and we can argue back and forth I know Susan and I talked about this before as well like it's sometimes not truly a science test either it's more of a reading test or a math test combined as a 1 with a few science topics in there but it's a weird test that's all I'll say I don't think it's really tests what your science capabilities are when you're looking at that so then you go down and look at basic growth uh so there's the proficiencies you can kind of see each building level there's probably some things that stick out to you I'm not really going to take a ton of like why we think this happened here or there and try to get to the bottom of it in the middle of the board meeting but if you have any questions on this data please feel free to email me um let me know I'd be happy to meet with you email it talk with you on the phone you need whatever it is I'd be happy to explain it a little further um because some of these areas that you see that maybe are alarming has actually been plenty of things that have already been done to help fix that problem um so you know and and there's reasons for things like it might be a new curriculum update it might be new standards for the year in a certain set core area but they just put out by the state there might be reasons behind it um so and then some like we said before about that sometimes we can't really explain certain things that happen and it just is what it is um we just have to give it another year and see what happened if that's the case um we're totally getting this um So Co if you go are you looking down at like page 8 and I don't have the 5-year Trend yeah yeah so that would have been I think that would have been a year right before the 2020 21 yeah you're right now seeing the change from that then at all well that 2020 2021 score would be the year after they missed a lot of the year before so that would be the data that would probably be lower and you'd see a significant drop would be 2020 2021 but real quick you don't see it here on our academic annual academic report that I put out in the fall over here how I present that big you know 20 Page 30 page with everything that'll have more historical data as far as like 10 years and you'll be able to see how that's gone from there as far as it really was the least academically I coverage from the co disaster we have to recover emotionally you know those way developmentally but academically are we still making up ground I think there's still repercussions it depends on what you had that year I mean because there's certain grade level concern topics that are covered in certain grade levels that if you missed out a portion of that year you're just fighting an uphill battle for years to come going forward from that um yeah I mean you could argue probably both ways to be honest with you but I I would say there are certain great levels you know you think early childhood and things like that that it probably with the core of reading and phonics and getting all those basics down it probably had a bigger effect than somebody who was maybe in eighth grade right academically maybe not social emotionally but academically in that room so yeah um and if you're looking at those Trend based at those the trends so page 80 page 9 the way to read that is if you color code diagonally that'll show you that grade level throughout the year um so you can kind of see that too so basically fourth and fifth and 2020 is your 10th and 11th graders now is that correct no so fourth grade 202021 would be this year's 80th Street would be this year's eighth graders yeah the 11th graders of this year would have been seventh that first you have to go so and then it's not as easy as while I always like point this out it's not not as easy as well just to say me PC if you take like a percentages 60 and 80 to say okay so they were at 70 before because once people might have had 40 Kids 1 might have 30 right you know what I mean so those percentages can be a little bit different so it's you can get a general theme from that but it's not going to be exact that could be off by a few of you if you did it that way just so just so we're all aware of that because that's something a lot of people like to do all the average of these 2 would be right in the middle well not exactly because they don't have the exact same kids at the school there um and this does not count so another thing I always like to say this is not exactly exactly perfect like cohorts because what we have here is this does not account for move out to move in um on the annual report I have 1 that's strictly with move out move in so we look at kids we've actually had for years on end instead of might have added 5 kids here lost 4 you know added whatever else which over the course of years does change things if we want to know but we've had throughout our whole system through nothing how we're doing with kids we've had throughout the whole thing so and that comes at the annual like an important fall so that and again if you have any questions on the ISS static like you want to ask any question bring the email me I will respond because of the meeting if you have another work session or something coming up that you say Hey you can pop in your questions about it I'd be happy to come in and explain stuff and and give some my reasons or my thoughts on on why certain things are where they are that's 1 yeah uh with the elementary changes we've made over the past few years do you feel that's been a success looks like they are in the numbers it looks like I do yes in looking at that and then you know there's there's a lot of other data that 1 Test 1 day with the ISS right looking at the social emotional dial looking at all the other data that comes into play uh I I would say it's been a success yes um again I hate to look at him and like draft reasons off of even 1 or 2 years without him right you know so currently right now if everything stays on the way it's looking I would say yes it's a success you know 2 years or years you know you look at 4 to 5 years data to try to make trend lines and Trend data we were particularly concerned about third grade last year started all together this year yeah yeah yeah it'd be great and I'm really well I don't know what it was like before but having all the major reference from to 35 model yes so as of right now just looking at 2 years worth of debits that sells really bad in third grade this year is 1 year right I would say yes it so far it looks like it has been a success in the right move and then reevaluate year by year you know every every year you keep kind of looking and looking and looking and seeing see if there's anything alarming so thank you yeah yeah thank you okay moving on down to Transportation sharing yep uh we had a meeting recently talked to her Tanya and I went up and met with Folks at Newton we're able to talk kind of about how it went this spring what might be adjusted change um I will say you know we we plan for a little transition time with Tucker and then Tucker's family grew a little more quickly than expected so they're really there there is very little uh overlap Tucker did get back before the end of the year and and work with them uh Monica and Pete from Newton were down a lot uh but I I do want to publicly uh thank them I made a plasmon uh our transportation secretary really step set up and then I f***** had to leave a little earlier than expected and that's 1 of the things we talked about we we reviewed uh roles and duties in a manner to get a very nice graphic that we shared and talked through uh because she was she was was doing some director type roles because she was the 1 with the knowledge and the contacts uh so we talked about transitioning things that would have to happen for next year uh getting the new people the kind of access they need in terms of into the campus uh State reporting from the Department of Ed some things like that uh appear like we're in a good place um it's going to be a good partnership I think and um you know the agreement to from a financial standpoint put this in the notes uh makes sense because we will get the equivalent of about 4 students of supplemental waiting that's 32,000 roughly which almost covers uh the the cost of the sharing uh plus we do have um salary savings Joe from Tucker's different role so it's actually that positive on the the dollar side uh and then we'll have that support and we'll be able to uh have Tucker grab more of the hours he wants and uh you know I I feel good about this as an option I don't know Todd is there anything I left out or anything yeah I think it's a good option cool and it's a you know it's a 2080 agreement so it'll be reviewed annually and uh and they're you know within that um you know we we just need to both parties need to let them know that we plan to continue it um but I I think it's a good option from District any questions on that motion for approval all those and approval of the transportation chairman of Union State I post motion carries girls wrestling take this 1 here at the conversations with gardening some Community people as well uh just a little bit of backstory we've shared callbacks mangoes you guys know the the past couple years and uh that's actually gone really well our kids have had a great experience of pullback mango um and when art and I had a conversations our our big thing was tomorrow our kids have an opportunity to wrestle that's that's really important to us uh and it was we were just informed it would be about a month ago now uh that that opportunity a cool fact was no longer going to exist and so that's what art and I sat back down and put our heads together and said what does this if if we bring it here to PCM uh and there is some undertaking for us to do that as you heard or talk about uh there's there's some practice Logistics um there's going to be some costs as well with salaries uh uniforms travel everything that goes on with the program uh but all that being said we've got as it sits now I anticipate about 8 High School girls wrestling uh and we have a couple of the Middle School level as well um and you can see some of that information down there um and so as it sits now our recommendation my recommendation is for us to start our own bills dressing program and I I do want to note as well I've had conversations with Rusty uh and our voice staff as well as our Mac Club as well of what are those practice Logistics look like and so everybody's aware of what this will look like um there's got to be some sacrifices but uh I think all in all it's it's a good thing for PCM and a good thing for our kids to have this opportunity go ahead any questions so this is the dollar amount that's in your budget then yeah so it's more of a general fund is what a lot of these expenses are yeah that was 1 of 1 reason too like Jeremy said as long as we had opportunity I mean this isn't the perfect time to start a program just because we've been budget cutting and and trying to you know deal with not great state a declining enrollment so those things as long as we have an opportunity that was a different conversation you know that that this wasn't the perfect time because like Jeremy said there are there are obstacles to figure out whether its budget uh practice facility or whatever but uh when an opportunity went away there wasn't another um sharing opportunity uh we we didn't want just deny the kids the chance to to do it so like Jeremy said it'll be a you know we'll be a additional general fund expense but um you know I'd say we we'll figure it out but I'll be going they'll figure it out and uh you know and I haven't had an opportunity I wanted to this is kind of the first step here and once this is is approved if and when it is then I'll go and boost your club and I anticipate that they'll be supportive as they are with all of our other program so especially in the uniform that's something that's really in their their world of things so um not all of this will be um a general fund expense for the majority of it will be and you know like next year it'll be cheaper I mean we won't have to buy uniforms but I mean the salaries and transportation costs will probably yeah and and that thing will go up that dollars for transportation I I really don't don't know because it's really tough even for me to ask Tucker what did it cost for us to do boys wrestling we've got shuttle running all over the place that are on top of already regular routes and so to to Really pinpoint what that cost additional cost is I mean that was a really rough number to yes I would know you got you have an item later too and is look at the not only the expenditure side but the revenue side and Jeremy and and Tyler green and Kim Petty John you know put their heads together too and you'll have an item later uh where they plan to take over what we have to do in the varsity group for advertising and scoreboards so you know that's at a $1,000 difference hope hopefully more but yeah um so you know we're we're looking at the other side of it too and and I don't art and I have this conversation I I don't really want to be you know in a position where people say to our program where we're going to leave you know that that doesn't really feel great but also the reality is that you take 8 kids times you know that the SSA that that that's pretty quick too the long arm 30,000 yes I don't remember the number of being that high that incoming freshmen as well yeah that'd be counting incoming freshmen okay great I'm glad you brought forward yeah surveyed a couple of times and that was that was a key deciding factor you know and the reason we were we were looking at it seriously this year uh even prior to the the sharing thing yeah and I I explained R2 I I see there's kind of 3 different kids when we talk about starting a program or 3 different groups I'll say you've got a group of kids that say yep I'm all in I want to wrestle never show up to practice you've got to group and say yep I'm all in to show up for the brick leak and they're done and you've got third group that's there the whole time so you know when we get those surveys it's it's really tough to judge what group you're in uh but we feel pretty solid about those 8 kids and there's also reality bringing the PCM as main number gets that aren't weren't in that cold back sharing that organ participate now that that's another reason I think you can you can feel good about it succeeding just the the PCM activity programs are are strong I mean good programs great involvement from kids so I think the gentleman is folks said you know if you build a big will come type we don't know for sure if there is an opportunity there how it grows but uh but other than the financial part of it I think we felt like it was a good time to do and and we'll figure that out like you said bro we have a motion and second to approve the girls wrestling program all the favor say I motion carries um boyack accepting Woodward Granger on the day of 27 school year yeah I'll take this 1 as well feel free to chime in or um our conference was recently um approached by Woodward Granger schools to to join the conference I did a little history actually they were in our conference um I think back in the early 2000s uh so there there are school that's familiar with our conference they're currently in the West Central conference uh and that conference is kind of having some teams move around so that that put Woodward Granger in a spot to want to figure out what's next for us uh and so what we're going to apply to our conference um and I've got listed here just a little bit of background of what schools are currently in our conference um and what Woodward Granger would do is they would bring us to an even 10 number uh and that's that's a really attractive number for a conference to have that shows some stability uh that number of 10 is as much uh much easier to work with the scheduling Logistics uh their team that's in our our current uh footprint of our conference and they're growing tool as well so that's something that's attractive to us um I've got a tax there I I sent just a survey out all of our varsity coaches to gauge what their level of Interest was and and it was uh very supportive um that that they're interested in Woodward Granger coming on as well um and I put in here the bottom I want to make sure that I I talked about this so from our level what happens is Woodward Granger applies then we've got a couple different groups we've got our ad group uh then we've got a principal group and then 2 school has their individual school board so so as our conference ad group we met uh and we we passed their um acceptance 900 then it moved to the principles they also passed from 90 uh and now each school has to bring it to their school board for uh acceptance uh and then our conference bylaws it it reads that for its past it's got to be a 2/3 majority um school boards have to approve uh so that that would be 6 current schools have to approve it so even if you guys say 9 day we don't we don't really aren't interested in your grades are joining and it's still a realistic chance they can join because every other AD and principal supported it so I would imagine those school boards would would probably follow suit too so just want to be fully transparent on what that process looked like and this would be for the 6 27 school year I'm going to start we're a part of this 1 away from from 61 miles is in 1 mile yeah they had a it's not clear but no I mean we would drive past them to already go to 2 different Cavern schools now but they attachment here with some yeah the other question I had was uh they're growing obviously yeah faster um so is very concerned about competitiveness Etc I would say there's concern about competitive 1 a right now right yeah they're I mean if you look at their enrollment I would have to use the prize they're almost a mirror image of us but they are growing faster uh but competitiveness wise that that wouldn't be a concern for my in and hold on bigger distance we it would be mostly High School sports Middle School sports we stay pretty local for the most part so uh it would be the high school level this is a good time to have this and there's all kinds of movement happening in conferences in the State uh and uh realignments and as Jeremy said to and I know as a former ad scheduling ten is much easier than scheduling 9 uh and they they're they're a very good fit in your conference I think there's a reason they were in your conference before um you know similar School BCM in a lot of ways good school so I I I was not surprised to see any of these in principles I think it's a positive and and there was a sense of urgency on our end there's some recent legislation that just passed through that talk about a realignment uh committee committee from the state that would be created and so we really don't know what that looks like and that will go into effect July 1st and a little bit scary just to put all that Authority potentially on some committee to decide who goes where and so that there was a little sense of urgency from Woodward Granger to get this through the or July 1 before the unknown happens and also for us to act on it I'll make a motion to approve a motion and a second to approve the order Granger into our hoyak that all up um all those in favor say I anybody opposed me handbook addendum um it's really a fairly minor change in a way um basically we have recently found out that we can use infinite campus for parents to report absences so in in addition to being able to call the school parents can log into the app and then report an absence that way and so we just want to add that to the handbook we also did take out the language that parents can email in because it's not a sure it's not an efficient way for parents to report an absence for example the secretary is out sick and they email the secretary that email may never be seen and we know that there are sometimes email sharing in order to catch those which is also potentially a privacy violation that could happen so this way it's it makes it easy for parents because they can still just get on their phone and click a couple of times and also it protects us as a school and make sure that we see those sentences so we would just like to add this the handbook will be part of the registration process this year because we have to show that we provide it to all our families and so during the registration process this year parents will click new box it will be linked in the and put the boxes they saw and then they'll have access to that as well so we just want to make sure that's done before we have registration go live July 1st so we can call or do it on Infinite Campus those are the 2 you know it's a learning curve it's going to take parents a while they'll still be parents will email we will we will be discouraging that um we just want to make sure kiddos are reported apps that we know about those absences as quickly as possible and Infinite Campus is actually the quickest way possible because immediately goes into our system and and it's more productive for the secretaries as well because they can bash sort those um there's nothing worse than calling home Aaron Smith and that's it and they're really not right um or vice versa and they're like I already called you or so some parents email the teacher and that maybe isn't related to the secretary in a family basis and then you call a parent who's already recorded that absence and they're like calling to hold the school is my child start to panic that maybe their child isn't at school so this week says it's just a bit more secure a lot more secure actually getting getting parents used to go to camp this is nice too yeah I agree yeah I was saying there just also say when it's determined excuses Forge for misrepresenting the fact comes from your trial this is as truancy that would be 1 Thing from a middle school perspective I can see you know Mom used for work at 7 AM and you know Jimmy knows the password I'm gonna get on on the ship that through so that might be an email so so it's good we have that language in there in case there's any kind of notification knows as parents if they elect it that will notify their kid if they're marked absent or notified like by email or phone or text if they elected it that's a good point so like say they so Johnny logged in marked himself asset and you have a reason um it will this is the the we process that um it would shoot Mom an email saying hey Jonathan it goes to the parent team officer if they elected so yeah some parents don't care they shut it off um some parents like to know you know yeah I don't even know if it's the people or not I don't know it's been so long since I think we bought some and what you can also log in and change the campus anytime okay we have a motion for approval by Ron second and second all those in favor of the handbook denim say I anybody motion carrier High School open campus um that's me uh I actually have the the next to work based learning handbook they kind of go hand in hand so um last year was our first year they'll be campus and just like everything it was it was um trial and error in some cases and so um I've made some changes to our policies based off of some of the things that we saw where there were gaps um and things that we need to kind of shore up um so that has been reflected in the language in particular you'll you'll see that there is a change in the most language with the study hall of work-based learning um that is where we had to to put in some language about how students have to be enrolled in a school approved work based learning program we had a lot of students saying that they had to work and therefore if they were put on the open campus list that they um they should be allowed to leave um and if they weren't enrolled in work based learning that was very hard for us to verify um so we wanted to change the language a little bit um and make sure that we also um included in both the Lunch open campus and the workday up on campus a little section about student Behavior as a reason to hold students back from um building campus privileges um and so we changed that wording and then when you look at the work-based learning handbook um Bolton um was it able to be here tonight but I worked with him on the language and the work based learning handbook to make sure that it mirrors what our open campus policies are so that they're more in alignment in alignment otherwise it open compass went well like it's a it's a very good incentive I will say that it's very good incentive um students get their work in um you know when I send out the lists on Saturday uh there's a lot of emails back um very quickly asking what you know why am I on the list I thought I turned things in and so um it is a it's a really good incentive um and it's going to sign up for Behavior as well um so I think I think it's been it teaches them a lot of responsibility and time management how do you handle good because I know they on their study hall so they're where you take the dmat classes you get the study hall um so is there can you monitor grades on there you just wait till the final grade comes in yes so dmat classes and it's it's relayed uh very clearly in this poll does a nice job um we have zero access to those grades um and so and that is related to the parents when they help their students register of those classes it is a college level course and so we don't have access to those grades until midterms um and then once we get those grades we do relay those to the parents so that they know um and then um that is about the only way that we're able to monitor um those grades we will sometimes the students that are in um going to be to direct you but I will say in the um in the DMACC um Career Academy we will get emails from about the Career Academy kids which are different than the online kids um saying you know so and so maybe didn't show up or so and so is falling behind we will get emails about the Career Academy kids and we will kind of handle that um in house and talked to parents and and talk to the students but the students that are enrolled in the online courses we get midterms and then final grades so then if they lose like PCM class is a week by week you monitor right you can lose a permit for early getting it back whatever but if it happens in midterm and you're not doing well then do they lose it for a long time so what we do is we look at keeping them for study hall um during in that time so that they work on their demat class during study hall survey in it then then for the rest of the time because there's no way you knowing that they bring your grade up either and we've done that with so they pretty much lose their privilege for the rest of the semester at least so it's 1 period study hall per class so for 1 or whatever but considering 1 class okay yep far as a lunch goes I know there's some concern with that because I gone well yeah it has gone well to be honest with you most students that only have lunch um you know they don't have any other study halls or a study hall on either end of lunch uh they or study hall during fifth period most of them don't leave there might be a quick trip to Casey's and back but um uh yeah we haven't had any any issues that back in time which that was my big concern was that they were back in time but they are back in time um but it's it's funny as the and I normally they can talk about this as the time went on some of our kids that had open campus for lunch realized um or or were able to leave um after like fourth period And Lead for the day real guys very quickly that finding lunch on your own isn't necessarily the most fun thing so we had seniors day or Junior stay for lunch and then leave after that um because somebody else was making them lunch yeah and that's their social time they want to be a different you know that has been a comment from students that they have said you know I miss my friends so um they they will stay for lunch and and talk to their friends and socialize and then leave after so we started seeing more and more of that um more and more of that as the year went on the motion to approve the changes I would I'd probably do 2 just since it's 2 different it looks small I make a motion to approve the um change to the open campus for study hall second we have motion second to approve the open campus for study hall all those in favor say I I post motion carries yeah I I actually met with Bas learning and stuff from the other but we could do 3 motions I'll make a relationship like a motion and a second are open that changes to open compass launch all those in favor say I by the post motion carries work based learning handbook yes so like I said the language um has just been changed a little bit um in the work based learning handbook um we were also running into into an issue with students who were in in enrolled in work-based learning as a course um that if we took away their open campus because they were enrolled in workplace learning as a course that they were not having any ill effects right they were not having anything taken away from them because they were saying well I have to go to work I'm enrolled in workplace learning so Colton and I sat down and I said you know uh to be honest with you a lot of those kids that were enrolled in work-based learning as a course and we're going to work we're missing assignments and other classes and it wasn't that big of a deal because they had no repercussions and so we sat down we talked to some of the employers that we work closely with with work-based learning and we said you know listen what if we took open campus away from some of those kids how would it affect you as an employer and they all agreed that they are students first um and so we uh changed the language so that there would be open campus being we were able to take it away we would just give the employers enough notice um so that they could backfill if they needed to um so we're hoping that that um that incentivizes those work-based learning students to understand that their schoolwork comes first um and that their work-based learning is actually a course um before it is a job and so um that's what the language change in their uh reflects and then it also reflects the changes that we made to our open campus policies take crew second we have a motion and second to approve the work of a learning handle changes all of the papers say I anybody oppose motion carries consolidation partial I mean that time you speak to this she she spoken with the people at the county so yeah um Becky and I talked with them and ultimately the attached document that's there um needs to be filled out by us just for approval to move forward with consolidating um the parcels that are listed there in the agenda into 1 Parc I'm just going to clean things up a little bit and it's a relatively simple process there's no cost Associated um with it going to get your Google to officially move forward with that other Parcels too at the same time or at some point just just these I think the other thing for other Parcels like I think next to this um still is the Des Monroe School District that's additional work that's required um that requires some legal assistance to move forward with that so it's not as simple um this is just consolidating Parcels that PCM has purchased um that just 1 thing is we had a big discussion about those trees look at that tree line where where our property line that those trees are ours I haven't thinking that within 1 of our discussion a couple years ago I think we knew that back then at the yeah so I just want to point that out okay motion for approval and it's like all those in favor of consolidation on partial requests say I purposes motion carrier District concerns renewal yep that's me again we've received our renewal for our property and liability insurance for the next fiscal year um the overall premium is increasing um by about 11% um with a focus mostly As far as starting that up is um an increase in our linebacker policy as well as workers compensation um and then there's a few other changes that are listed there um whereas in as well I just want to impact the overall costs the big 1 that we'll talk about a little bit more here as the next agenda item is just our wind hail deductible buy down um we're not purchasing that as part of an insurance plan like we did last year what we'll be talking about here in a few minutes and store protection done um so I also had an impact on our overall renewal was like just looking like if you look back to what it was not last year the year before for our properties like a 30% increase yeah we just looked at that during finance and that was 27% last year was 247% last year yeah so it's it's not as high absolutely what we budget for this we weren't anticipating 20% increase at the time of the certified budget we were kind of expecting and then we obviously didn't know the strong protection plan information like what we do now either so if that um certainly is coming in a much less than what we were expecting this but good this is a policy includes our board liability correct yes yep that's what the linebacker is my question is in in a circumstance of legal Act does insurance company have the final say over whether we accepted a settlement offer or do we I think it kind of depends who's putting the money in yeah yeah very well so what when can you can contract you buy with an insurance company if their money's on the line they're going to have files that exactly so the reason I asked you medical we can search there are policies where we they can't sell unless we say it's okay yeah and that's not the case no not necessarily know as far as if you guys wanted to settle and they didn't then yeah they're they're usually pretty easy when it comes to working together to know they often see a lot more of cases you know when they're working with their attorneys in order to adjust by yeah we know this is going to go to trial we know here's your options of this is what we're seeing in case study that says this is what's going to cost you if you go to trial or we're doing satellite case out of out of you know essentially go over trial trial is very expensive um unfortunately you know obviously doing is either daily where unfortunately insurance companies settle and we don't agree with it at all but we know that they their insurance attorneys know that they go to trials when cop right 10 times as much unfortunately so there's a lot of cases that get paid they should not be paid any other question thing and yeah unfortunately there I actually talked to Jeremy a little bit about it it's you know it's perfect to come to options it's it's not like a homeowner's policy where your shop and other carrier bills were super super limited now and I said this is the only option that I'm aware of that economical there's other options that you can choose to when you're basically carrying certain things out but then you know EMC kind of has its when it comes to you can't take the property out or the work comp out or whatever they have to have the whole package of your your out of the place so that's where we're super handy Captain Iowa you know I told you guys this last year I wish we could figure out a way you know in in gesture insurance is coming up away on the Wind hail diabetes we're just going to talk about which is a really good thing you know it's it's it's not Insurance that's you know I'm an insurance agent that's the best part about it it's not Insurance you know they're not paying the insurance company it's basically fun staying here so yeah that's that's the extent of unfortunately right now probably just creating a guy with all the money when we have an Iowa it's yeah about all we can do is they get to see what happens next year we're having options be self-insured I mean that's obvious we we're just talking about that during our finance committee that's this storm protection fund kind of operates like a self Insurance um you know you're creating this this pool and this Kyle said not sending it to the insurance um I don't I don't know of any District that that that could do what you're talking about I mean you can do you can't do it with health insurance obviously there are self-insured schools there uh but you you know I assume a lot of Financial Risk when you try to do something like that too um so I'm not seeing what what I would cover Associated lost every building Within 1 of the benefits of the store protection fund is that um it's for occurrence for building you know so if you have a big storm you know that hits 4 of our buildings you're not in effect paying poor deductibles that's this 1 big benefit to that and as a gigantic benefit and that part no no insurance company can replicate that and stuff that's going to charge you 1% of that building you know as far as in depending on what you know you get you're buying a lower deductible last year date 10,000 or whatever you're gonna 10,900 billion so it's yeah this this storm production fund is definitely and it's on a lower cost last year or for this year for the deductible item move to the motion and second to approve the property liability insurance coverage for 2020 2526 all those in favor say I anybody opposed motion carries protection yeah so we talked a little bit about that already but but essentially it's it's a risk pool that's being put together um that through by gesture um for districts that participate in um you pay an amount um to be a part of that risk pool um you're basically going to get broader coverage um you're going to then year-over-year the long-term the goal would be is that um you know depending on the claims experience for the risk pool you may see costs go down um you know so 2 or 3 years down the road we may be paying less it just kind of depends on how the overall pool um does but this to me I talked with Kyle I know art and I have attended several different workshops and webinars on this and I I do think it looks like a much better option for us to move forward with with our 1% deductible situation I think this is pollution um other questions at the same time yeah yeah gesture facilitates your EOC program too so I would kind of just go inside with that that's like I said the beauty is you're not you're not sending the money to 1 right exactly exactly and like that I they just have done a ton and ton of money and tying into the logistics and the statistics behind it all so they they feel like it's funded well but nobody can go out I feel like it's fun to go hopefully next year we'll actually have premium decreases that's obviously the goal program yeah I think Tanya you sharing our finance committee 172 School District shared with us at ABO meeting is that they're looking at you know 170 so far they've gotten verbal commitments from that 1 to participate just getting bored of Google so so year 1 year and over half the Iowa district right move approved like in motion to crew the storm protection fund all those in favor say I motion carries equipment maintenance Insurance renewal yep that's me again um our equipment maintenance insurance with for me is up for renewal um the renewal conditions the terms of the the plan itself is the same which changing of course is our rate um we have an overall 19% increase that weeks of 15% of that is based off of our usage for the last last year um and then 4% um specifically called out for potential impact from tariffs um if that should change over your just um accordingly the usage chart um of our history with Remy is listed in the agenda so you can see that our usage has gone up significantly this last year we've been a really good job of using it um the downside to that is is that our premiums are going to you know represent that um we have an offer for a 1 year or a 3 year agreement I know last year we offered to 1 of your agreements is to kind of see how our usage um went this last year um and so we do have that option to do a 1 year again if you want or we could do it for your agreement we we discussed in finance because it didn't seem to be a lot of pain if you're going through your over the 1 year that really price break and and we don't we don't have Remy as far as we're not this is we're not the agency on this but of course and I will I think with the 3 unit it's so increased like I don't think they sell it but it's like I don't see the advantage yeah but yeah that was that was kind of our taste to the committee earlier today and I know you probably discussed this when you first went to Remy too but again and the the other benefit the district is that we're paying this out of management but we're seeing the benefit in our general fund you know so there is a kind of a cost shifting that's good for districts particularly if you have your staff that actually submits does the work like the staff is doing here and you get up you know if you're utilizing 75% uh well well worth doing in my opinion that's correct yeah we usually um it would be at this time of year they would let us know for this 1 um I budgeted at a 20% increase just knowing our use the check on those so I kind of did this across the board between property that's the end of this so unfortunately this was closer line for our first paid last year so if you look for this current year so far they have 72,000 and some change I know Becky has got the fact that number has gone up I want to say it's closer to 83,000 if the attachment removing payments um I have the the day I posted the agenda um that's what we have received so far but I also sent out 6 claims that day um that I've not been processed so huh how many um overall they I've not gotten anything 100% denied the only thing I usually get denied is overtime um and then they pay the regular rate so they they they pay partial plan typically I know that we've been dealt with I don't have a coverage she's she's been missing but this is no harm in sending it through you know sometimes we've gotten surprised and they they covered it so um sometimes like they'll ask me for more details um and then I just send it to the rest of your toddler or whoever it is and and and say hey any more details and and they do and most of the time they come back and what was that the big thing is covered our server to our server the right now too for us the the controls are a big deal we have a lot of Old Johnson Controls that as they as they go to put we're replacing them with Woodland and I think that's about 5 or 6 thousand dollars a problem yeah so that there's a lot with uh lots of times with um if you have a fans in this issue of the units um a lot of heat related the technology here too so sometimes Tyler think Lane has worked as well so um so sometimes it's work that we're doing in-house he can also claims um yeah I think for us here to tell you to do right I think with this utilization I feel like it's a no-brainer if we were utilizing it for 40% or something maybe you I spent a lot of time do I does anyone know not really it's it's an email I just I I already scan the receipts or invoices in to our system anyway so I just sent an email to um the claims email and just say these are PCM claims and that's it and then when the check comes I Plaza so I mean it's um I do have a spreadsheet um for our in-house claims we do that every 46 months or so or every just better process down yeah as you can see and there's there's just some companies no matter what it is um I sent it in so like Midwest Midwest and alarms Excel as long as it plugs in um and I know it's electrical I just automatically send it and take my chances so if you do renew it I would I don't think there's any point in doing it for more than a year I would recommend you make a motion a lot of things expire until 1 year would it not be factored in with the leader they they look at that they look at it every year so that's where I'm not sure what the benefit is of doing the 3 year agreement so they can make a motion we approve 1 of your contract second motion that get to approve a 1 year contract all those other papers say I those motion carries Varsity groups contract yeah this is mine part make sure I don't screw this up here so I think we have to motion yeah so I we've got to take off the table and then my recommendation will be to vote down the contract so this was brought up earlier this fall that we had a discussion um and then in-house Tyler Kim and I talked and um this is something that is a pretty big cost that's going up the Border 5,000 just for them to create the advertisements pretty much and to solicit them uh and so that's something that that we're going to look at bringing on board ourselves this next year and just like everything we'll see how it goes maybe it'll be a lot more than we thought and next next year we're going to recommend redoing this contract we don't know but we want to at least give it a try um in our conversation too Jeremy I think you could see a real benefit here because you have advertisers who are going to support the school they're going to more enthusiastically supported into 100% let's go to school instead of 50% to quite a few people already that have sent back out and said they would react they know the money was going to the school I appreciate you doing Jeremy because you know that's a big discussion we'll check it on people going out in the and getting these advertisements and we we question ourselves where we should have that Varsity Revue do this or not or and I don't know how truthful they are well I know the people that they're calling of how the money is this is huge I appreciate it yeah thanks for all the updates I mean we take this off the table so table sets you have a motion and second take from the table of our student contract all those in favor say I focus now this next motion too that assess the original um action item was the contract approval contract so your next motion if you want to go with Jeremy plan will be to uh move to to vote on the contract so we need a motion to approve the contract our speaker of Google and then you're gonna go down yeah well all right well we don't know you want to go right that's crazy I don't know yeah motion and second to approve the varsity group contract all able to pull that power point it's okay oh thought you're saying turn over you not okay okay so um I'm Taylor Berkson I'm the business teacher at the high school and then also now I'm the assistant um to your coach so right when I started basically Amy was telling me that we take the seniors to the Isla honor Squad that happens during the state football championship um but we can only take 3 seniors so if you go to the next slide for me I believe it's on there um rather than doing that we would like to take our Juniors and seniors to The Varsity Spirit spectacular um at Disney world it's from November 20th to the 24th we'd arrived on the 20th which is technically 1 day early but they offer it at extra charge basically and then we come back on the 24th um and the cheerleaders will actually forget to perform in a parade at Magic Kingdom like through the park um and they would have some time for practices to like learn the parade and everything and then also so we would have time to actually experience the parks and enjoy that so if you go to the next slide for me um so like I was saying the honors Squad performed at the high school football championship game during halftime um and we can elect 3 seniors to but we have 7 seniors and then 2 Juniors this year and 1 of them is actually graduating at the end of this year to a full year early um and we don't want to have to choose between any of the girls because they're all very talented cheerleaders so we would like to take all of them to Disney so like I said it's offered to the Juniors and seniors of this year again there's 7 seniors 1 Junior graduating this year and then 1 Junior who will be here again next school year um and so we want to offer this every other year so that is kind of fair for everybody everybody gets the opportunity but it's not going to be in every single year type thing so the cost for 2 year is going to be about $100 um this is based off of the 2024 pricing they haven't released all of the pricing information for this year yet um and so for comparable the 1135 from last is from last year it includes 4 nights at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort the 3-day park park hopper pass um the uniform a souvenir t-shirt we get meal passes and then also taxes and then we're also estimating about 400 to 450 for airfare um I was actually looking at different airlines last week and and I found some that were as well as like 350 before taxes and fees and stuff so yes um like I said the total is approximate the actual cost has not come out yet so this is all based off of last year's pricing um each cheerleader that is interested has to have their registration in 2001 down payment by August 15th um this timing is because we will be doing a cheer camp in July um and so it's kind of based off of if you do it in June soon as July July is in August and then August would be due in September so like I said possible out of money the parents do have the option to pay for this out of pocket but asking them to pay for over a thousand dollars is a lot to ask um so we're working on fundraisers um we just did a fill your bow fundraiser with um Leading Edge for just the general competition cheerleading fund um but we need to have more fundraisers for the select group of girls that would be going so we might do another fill your bow or like popcorn selling fundraiser through Leading Edge um we've talked about doing a bake sale or pizza by the slice during a football game um we're looking into directing parking at the Iowa Speedway and I'm talking to the Knoxville Raceway as well to figure out if we can do fundraising through them um Doing Nothing But Cakes fundraiser I did 1 of those for Deca this past year and it was actually pretty successful um we talked about doing a 50-50 raffle out of football game or a Car Wash Free Will donation we want to do quite a few different fundraisers to try to get different people interested um and we want to do things that are like people are buying things or providing things for people so that people aren't just giving their money to us and then again like I said parents can pay this out of pocket we do not want to have them do that if we can avoid it at all um they can also attend a shop around if they'd like they would just have to pay for themselves we would not help with that costs and then Amy will be attending as shop around as well and then yeah thanks Taylor and I want to make sure it's important main reason this is coming in front of you guys the fundraisers I know that's a point of conversation too that we talked about but also the out of state travel is is probably biggest thing with our our school policy I believe you guys have to prove out of state travel that um pricing is actually really good I think there's a few Vacations so that's actually yeah number yeah and they have like so they have 2 different parades they split it up based off of like the schools that are registered actually and so they have a Mickey parade and a mini parade and when we register with our school they'll tell us which parade we're in and then as long as we are not required to be doing anything for the parade itself we would have time to go to the parks go out to eat anything like that relaxed at the resort so yeah that's a good you could be a 15,000 yeah do you have any questions at all motion to approve their trip I'll make a motion second to approve the cheer trip in November to all those in favor say I I motion carries thank you thank you thank you fundraisers the following fundraising I will say I just got nervous when she said we just did a fill your bow on gosh I hope that's on their first 1 on their said there I did it yeah which is that's how it falls with our monthly board oh the airway meat bundle 1 is ongoing and oh I've seen that on Facebook speech just happened to yeah so as long as the board is tolerant of you getting a ceiling wall understanding there are timing issues at times this is a fine way of doing it but if I ever becomes an issue if there's too many or you you wouldn't have approved something then you have a conversation about how that works make a motion to approve we have a motion and second to approve the current fundraisers listed all those in favor say I post motion carries board policy and second read through on here for a second reading uh after the first reading we could not have anybody contacting me or or requests get together any of them uh as we talk through the the first time uh the majority of these were a simple change like uh gender identity and not being a protected class anymore or like adding designate to our custodian of records for Becky um what else there were there any just this I think cell phone policy oh yeah cell phone policy which is happening anyway yeah so which I and I think it just aligns with our handbooks or yeah we say principles look at that at the time why is our policy already compliant with the state law pretty much I don't know that you say I'm a Christian did you have to make an adjustments to our current cell phone policy nope have to make another did it make you happy remember we talked a little bit about what instructional plan was or how how that was in the log it's really going to be like making sure that practice now matches policy with with the lobby and there is more than changing up the policy to match the law okay we're looking for a motion for the policy second kind of carrying if you're ocean for the second read final read for listed for policy motion carries I'm gonna start at Steve said with this he's been a model board member you may not even remember this but in my um interim superintendent contract he talks about a an annual report and so I just put together a little brief little annual report for your reading pleasure and contract talks about um sensitive I'm supposed to talk to you about accomplishments efficiencies plans for the future so this is a little bit of recap on the year I tell you 1 day yeah um there are no discernable efficiencies so these deficiencies are all fine but uh you know I I all these things probably that I put in there we've talked about um you know and I I just I reflected on on the 4 goals that I began this process with and and how I think they've laid out uh efficiencies I think actually some of those things got to talk about um when we did my evaluation and I think those are uh primarily due to just just the interim role uh being a little bit more of a a status quo person that uh a trail laser when you're an interim and then also being slightly less than full-time probably limited by opportunity and a few things but uh so those those things were reflected in there and then I think you kind of know what's on the horizon too you know continuing to continue to watch the budget and decision you know on the proposed Rex Center and and other facilities things long term and um you know you you'll have enough to uh to make you feel like you're certain purposes board member I'm sure you'll you'll have decision in the future so I would just say again it's my last last board meeting here hey last board meeting ever unless I'm doing something as a consultant but appreciate the opportunity It's Been a Good Year really enjoyed it it's been good working with you and I think I think the district's in a really good place and you're you've got great leadership coming in and uh I'll be down the road watching what's happening at PCM so thank you okay thank you thank you are I got 1 more thing to add it's not on the agenda here they are so hope they all be mad at best um on behalf of the PCM school board I would like to say thank you for your service this past year we like to give you a token of appreciation last year I've been an honor to be the last school board you'll get to work with we'd like to thank you for your help giving us getting our School District moving forward always keeping us on track thank you appreciate it and we also have cookies oh yeah I I am so transparent thank yous and when that that phrase fat and happy really are you have a gift thank you for sharing it with us this week it's been great I I've enjoyed it I think it made me come and I want me just as a negative I've enjoyed it way more than I anticipate the level today it just makes it easier for districts to find their next Super independent instead of having to rush you know find 1 yep yep get time for your search and then you had a good pool and then it'll do a good job
