I think that's about the end okay okay we'll go ahead and call the meeting order if you want to do roll call Lori generally hello yeah Kelsey bington here Jeremy St Peter here Ryan jander Camp here behind welcome to app make a motion second approving did this say I post did correspondence none move down the good news okay we have a few things in here um PCM head track coach Logan Bigler and head cross country coach Eric what's your house or recognized at the Iowa Association of track coaches banquet and 2 or receiving bids for Coach of the Year for 2025 season so thank you both to both coaches for their hard work and dedication to PCM Athletics and supporting our athletes as they train and compete uh we also uh hosted 17 teams at the PCM boys wrestling invite uh I was able to see that that that was quite let's see um it was organized in a way that I've never seen before and a great way so just we use every space possible uh to get formats going and that's how you have a team from Kansas there yeah yeah the head coach okay but uh that was really good and um also want to officially welcome PCMS new school resource officer Hezekiah Applegate uh you may have seen him around he's been many of the buildings uh helping us out with situations already so all good so friendly face uh trying to meet kids and and so on so and then on January 7th of the panel of recent p grad spoke with Juniors and seniors about life after graduation it was an informative session that covered many topics so thank you to our alumni who attended that day thank you anything else have any good news okay move down to committee updates oh yeah that's right yeah so yeah we'll see what we talked about uh Rusty just kind of gave a yeah just kind of an yeah currently going on things I talked about the what to do with this building a little bit the start of the conversation so yeah um talked about some of the work that we were doing as far as planning for the pre-k through 8 great realignment of what that planning looks like our building building map I would say is probably 90 to 95% complete um to make some plans for the physical move uh to prayer City we're hoping you know our our initial thoughts are we'd like to have a lot of those plans in place by by spring break so that we can share with those plans look like and so we can um also plan we do have some days at the end of the in the school year for our staff that are future work days or professional development days that we of having to use some of that that time to help just physically get get people in in place over there so um see oh also kind of talked about what Transportation may look like that's still in the works um playground playground space for the preschool uh preschool kindergarten area that's something that we discussed that we lie will have to um look at purchasing some new equipment a lot of this equipment is deep in the concrete here so we're we're having a meeting tomorrow actually with um Rusty and Tanya and and Mandy what is that what is that and look like and try to get some um get some equipment looked at get some quotes those sort of things so others you can pick up I think we talked about the HVAC over the the launch area um no the the redo that yeah uh what was that exactly uh just a reminder Rusty that was that's for the upcoming year yeah the Middle School cafeteria yeah on to the quality yeah upgrade that expire Finance I know we're talking about a lot of things but I'm sure I'll not get along we received over 70,000 interest incomes this this month for a lot of commercial today over 91,000 through the year uh something for general fund expenditures are down 7% revenue is trending higher than last year we also talked a lot about the uh upcoming SSA budgeting um and our budget guarantee if we're gonna do that or be helpful for that we appreciate it will be um there is also conversation about building um the site that works right now let's talk about what potentially do and what options are on the table and how would in fact our budget or yeah our general fund and other funds I guess if we did sell it for hold on to it yeah yeah um and 1 of the major topics was uh School Insurance health insurance talk about options there going forward to potentially switching Brokers that we use um for better service and potentially better options which could impact our finances as well positive anything else you guys want to talk about perfect move on down to consent agenda some uh Putin Roofing is that is there some more yet to come on that 1 and this 1 yes today's invoice is not in there okay the 1 from Friday I added but then right after I submitted you sent me another advice so there is 1 more or 2 more invoices 1 from the bus barn and then they patch something at the middle middle school the high school the high school 2 different times that they can we were looking on track for that project you're done right outside of the dude where the west side of the building and the area ran all over panel that we need for the south side of weather for us to get in there so I'm not going to work in the sub zero weather make a motion to approve 1 second we have a motion and a second to approve the consent agenda all those in favor say I I anybody post motion carries principal and director updates they have any comments in there okay thank you everybody for your updates we do read them so um we move down to high school career fair first thing okay um I just wanted to just talk a little bit about an event that we have coming up that we have every year and I think Brian have you been Have You Been a vendor there before not yet well I'm gonna pitch it to you so um we have our high school Career Fair coming up just it's it's an awesome event um and it's grown over the last couple years and I'm really really proud of the work that our CTE Department in particular does um to make this such an awesome event um I'm just going to talk really quick about what it looks like so so this year it's on February 23rd um in our high school it runs from 8 um 8 mm to 1 um and we have sent out letters to all the vendors in the past but I will just say we are still looking for um vendors to come um typically and I'll talk about this here in just a few minutes we have over 50 uh businesses represented um it has grown exponentially and um it's a it's a really really fun event go ahead Becky um so last year had over 55 um from all occupational areas um a lot of them as you can see will bring activities are Hands-On simulations 1 year we even had a SWAT a SWAT truck um and kids were able to kind of go through a SWAT truck and um we've had admit American Comm and um bring their cranes um it's just it's been uh really really um fun event for them to do some really Hands-On stuff they love the simulators that like vermier and different places bring um that's really fun for them to put the goggles on and and do different uh simulators so some of the examples um I tried to put just a a wide range we have a lot of um what I would consider um like a Hands-On trade but we also do have like Prairie CB Dental comes the Aveda Institute um the Army and the Navy and then are air guard usually come Hamilton funeral homes comes all the every year um I would Legal Group we have chiropractors come Nationwide um I even convinced my husband to come he's a realtor so we get as many people um to come as we possibly can and we're always looking for even more so that we can expose our students to as many different areas as we possibly can so what is involved um so starting they they come and start showing up about 7:30 our vendors they get a welcome package we take them to their space we spend the pretty much the weekend before um setting up um they let us know if they need electrical hookups and things like that and we we strategically place them around the gym in different places depending on what their needs are um and we do that the weekend before they come in we give them a welcome package um they get to where they need to go and then students starting once school starts they come in in their uh classes so we start with our eighth graders ninth grade and they come with our groups ninth graders 10th graders and so on and so forth so all students grades 8 through 12 are required to visit with the vendors we do an advisory lesson ahead of time um just kind of reviewing our expect they write questions that they might be asking that we review which vendors are there so they can pick out in their heads what they're going to who they're going to visit um so they're required to visit with a certain number and ask questions of those that are there and then last year we started with our Juniors and seniors um a couple of other requirements and as always when there's a first year for something we tweak it a little bit to make it even better for this year but we require all of our Juniors to create a resume and an advisory class ahead of time and then they are required to sit with some of our vendors that have volunteered their time to have their resume looked at and get feedback from from those from those individuals um and then our seniors are required to do a mock interview um so they participate um with a handful of employers that have volunteered to give feedback we provide questions for those in uh employers um but they are also welcome to have their own questions based off of where work but we we try to give them some um if they're not entirely sure what they should be asking our students so we require Juniors and seniors to do just a little bit more um than the 8th through 10th graders and just put some pictures up here from last year I got this from Kathy um just just to kind of show um what's going on but they all bring stuff for the students so they all know that that's the way to get kids to the tables but they all bring things and the kids walk out of there with a lot of Swag um and then also the the um fill out a form afterwards and they enter a raffle and a lot of our vendors will bring stuff that we can raffle off too so kids can walk away with some pretty neat prizes as well um like Stanley's and things like that um gift cards um so it's a it's a really fun event um the kids are in there for about 45 minutes visiting and then like I said the Juniors and seniors have a little bit of extra extra time we feed all of the vendors um uh we have a caterer that comes to the event and they provide catering for all of the vendors and it's awesome so um because they are there for a little but after lunch I think that's it questions when will the junior start working on the resume so pretty quick they'll start working on it in English 11 um so and we also have an advisory within the next couple weeks they'll start working on it yeah it's um it's interesting the resume work um it just it they don't know what to do if they haven't had work experience and so we try to encourage to put volunteer work and things like that but it is really good for them to get that feedback um and I always tell them it's great to have even if you're not looking to get a job this is awesome to have this resume so if you ask somebody to write a letter of recommendation or or you're filling out a scholarship you have this to give to somebody for that so we try to make it so that they aren't thinking of it so much as work but as something that they can use um in the next year or so yeah that's great yeah so you mentioned you're looking for you people have any suggestions who do you suggest for you so if you if you are looking like who to contact yeah 1 worst point that people yeah so um it could be any 1 of our CTE teachers um Colton Where is the is the 1 that most people or they can contact me and I can put them in touch so yeah any other questions and like that you bring the ink for your that was new like here like 3 or 4 years ago I can't remember um yeah so we have kicked around the idea of bringing other schools into and we put out kind of some feelers last year a lot of the other schools do their own so they're not super interested in bringing their kids kids um but definitely bringing the eighth graders up it's good for them um to do that and it has their participation has drastically improved now that they are coming to the high school for their exploratory before it was sort of like they didn't know how to handle that but now that they come to the high school and they're part of the high school with their classes um it's gone much smoother so okay great thanks thank you okay post 2026 2027 school calendar okay so this is a this is a draft calendar um we will eventually uh have an opportunity for a public hearing at the at our next board meeting so just a couple couple highlights um start date we can't we cannot start any sooner than August 23rd so August 24th is our uh proposed start date does have about 1100 and 44 student hours in there uh there's 1080 required and so um a lot of those extra hours account for potential snow days but also some extra learning hours and also to make sure that um I don't have so many days for staff to build their 190 when we don't have kids there so uh we do have multiple professional development days throughout the year but um just going down to 1080 would open up many many days with with no no students there so but um just help us with some snow days too there are 190 teacher contract days um and and then another highlight I think to be looking at uh parent teacher conference days would be in the afternoon um starting in the afternoon through the through the early evening and so those would be those would be in March March 9th and 11th and then October 13th in in 15 so as you look at the as you look at the calendar is there anything that um you'd like us to look a little bit further at admin wise I did share this out to uh teachers also last week so um just to gather in and feedback that they may have before we to a public hearing as a teacher and service day required before going back and that's why we're going back on Tuesday after Christmas period see is that required no I guess it would um that that has that day has some movement has some movement to it um there are some there are some schools that put that professional development day uh like actually on this this Monday but like on the on the 18th so um that that's potential you know if there's feedback for that that's so that's an easy thing to easy thing to do I've heard a little bit that that could create a long um Christmas or winter break so um but this year this year we had right after break we had a PD day correct yeah we got feedback from teachers that they really liked that day just so that reset and refresh and get everything ready to roll that would be like a soft start and then this nice at the high school because we are starting a new semester that my teacher just can 1 finish up their grading from from first semester but then also get their syllabus ready they're you know they're starting new classes essentially so they have new rosters um so they can get their seating charts and everything ready on that day again visit draft we're still collecting feedback before we bring it so um that's what uh there's just not there's not a lot of movement within a school calendar anymore there's really not it's maybe a day or 2 here and there you can maybe play with a little bit to to make a difference but otherwise Things Are pretty well set of what what you can and can't do to get a get a school calendar in and try to be done you know maybe a lot of times schools would like to be done before Memorial that's a that's a a goal there's just really not much movement that's always been a goal here it seems like to be more warm day so yeah and the PJ days are working better than the 2-hour League starts or hour and a half late starts we get a lot a lot done yeah I think the feedback last time it was the late starts really weren't affected and it's hard to get going and and get something accomplished in that short amount of time so okay whenever he's ready we'll move down to set the public calendar hearing date for Monday February 16th at 5:45 I need a motion for that that's right before our board yep almost we have motion second to set the public hearing for the 26th 27th calendar on Monday February 16th at 5:45 all those in favor say I any opposed motion carries reconsideration committee this is a this is a committee that would um be available if any curriculum or any library books any kind might be in question that they would that those type of um content areas would go to them to review the feedback to the board that sort of thing before moving board with um either either type of curriculum or a library book that might be in question so the hope is to always not have to to use them that we're making good decisions along the way everything is bedded that we have in have in our buildings um but um but it is good to have a committee like this that's available and willing to help out when they need number of approval okay have a motion to take it to 3 points John Hobbs bilas Peter and Mandy degrees to the 2526 reconsideration committee all those in favor say I I opposed motion carries March school board meeting hold on spring break so yeah when I moved to March 23rd yep does that affect any of the certified budget stuff that we talked about it actually helps her because we're not able to have um our first public hearing has to be on or after March 20th so it does help with that I thought there was a reason we did we do this every year yeah the last couple years we're gonna have the same night yeah so next month we'll put the recommendation yeah is that 1 more does this have any effect on any bills or anything being late a week late I think because February is such a short month if anything I we can run a us an early batch and like have you okay I have a motion second to move the March school board meeting to Monday March 23rd at 6 PM all in favor say I I anybody opposed motion carries approval the at risk Dropout plan for 2627 school year okay um I guess as far as this this plan that is in front of you to approve is not anything new it's something that's been in place for for many years here at PCM so um just the process is different at the state is asking us to get the at risk plan approved and then come back um in the next item to uh approve the financial piece to make sure that we can Implement our plan so um I'll just all this mention a couple things you know the the PCMS at risk plans focused on prevention early intervention transition of students through the PCM school system and on the title it does say comprehensive uh comprehensive plan that it's not just a it's not just a high school plan it's it's comprehensive where it's k k through 12 where we are um looking at ways that we're identifying kids 8 through 12 that um that we hope that we can get them across the stage as as seniors in high school so it's a it's a team approach and obviously um age appropriate identifications and interventions and so on along the way and a lot you can see through our plan of different ways that we are um um putting those interventions and plans once kids are identified you chronic absenteeism it's low grades all of all of the could be uh social emotional uh type type things that we're we're identifying and trying to put interventions in place for kids to make sure that they're um they're not in line for for Dropout someday that we're we're trying to get them on a path for Success along the way so um but yeah that that plan is has been in place we review it um and make adjustments also if a plan needs to be tweaked or we come up with a new idea that could be that could be an intervention so we've got a lot of people that are um in support you know we have our classroom teachers that are doing some um Universal instruction but then we also have different things in place where we're doing tier tier 2 interventions in classrooms that are just a supplemental but then there are some kids that need a lot more extensive type assistance within our at risk at risk planning so just depends on depends on the student depends on the year of the week whatever they they may need so some questions on the adverse plan at all and the people out in the seats over here might have even more information than I do in the trenches is there a lot to it and you never know what might work for a student so they have had a lot of different tools the big problem I'll make a motion we approve at risk throughout that plan resolution right this 1 it says on just gonna do a roll call real quick we have a motion and second to prove that this Dropout plan thank you we do roll call though hold on right away yes Kelsey fentin yes Rod beehive yes Jeremy St Peter yes yes carries resolution for the district to make an application to the fbrc for modified supplemented mod modified supplemental amount or at Dropout prevention yeah so this goes with what parents have outlined for you there's a couple of components to it but the thing is that you would be approving tonight would be the application for the um modified supplement amount of 254,990 um in addition to that there's also a budget summary attached that outlines um the district match that were required um to put forth as well and then also other at risk funding that we would get it just breaks down and have a son believe use next year um for the various positions and other expenses to support the plan I have any questions on any you want to kind of touch on why it's so much more this year yeah so the amount does vary with these funds it's a user or lose it um type funding so in Prior year where the the differences would be is um I think that's what you're 25 there where we requested 88,000 it would be because we've had a higher carryover amount um that would have been taken away from what we would have been able to ask for um that particular year so um that's why such a variance there from your rear I'll make a motion to approve second have a motion to get to approve resolution for district to make an application to the sprc for modified supplemental amount for the atmos Dropout convention we need to roll call vote full memorized legs yes Chelsea fee yes we're at De yes Jeremy St Peter yes Brian van yes sorry dated fundraisers a little list of fundraisers there is an approval this is an elementary PPA fundraiser go to yeah um she is hoping to put in a rock wall and climbing wall at the C Jim she's been working with Tanya and Mr Becker and everybody to get all the permissions and Rusty and everybody so I don't know if everybody signed up yeah we're working on it talk to me today yeah been talking to Kyle at insurance agent everything make sure everything I'll get there but looking at kind of a for a corner section in the pce PC gym so I got honestly it's an 8 foot 8 foot wall Maybe so it's not like all the way to the ceiling or anything like that the lower lower section or greater gives us the line can I have a cover that goes over it when it's not in use so nobody can use it unless she had the pipe in so that was why we didn't see Generations very often why what are we having for dinner lesson question usually if I had that's what it was last year at different types of teeth so I'll make a motion to approve a second quiet old man here sorry motion a second to good fundraisers listed all those in favor say I I all right by the post motion carries policies for tree okay Aaron do you want to just talk briefly just 1 little word change it it um the prescription medication Supply it was part of the policy primer but we wanted to just have the nurses review it first before we added it with the others and and the um pretty much all they did was just put the word May in there so that if they ever um stock prescription medications like nebulizer or um inhalers things like that um they just put a note that we the district based off things like that and it's just a policy for how they would do that but yeah it was just included with all the others in the primary that we got and we were just waiting for them to reach with what we brought it to you guys the small change there is uh the board is allowed to just bypass the second reading also if you so choose um so otherwise we bring it back next month for a second reading to approve it then so your choice yeah so we can do a motion to approve the first read and wait the second okay I will make a motion to approve the first I have a motion and second to approve the first read and wait a second all those in favor say I motion carries policies for second V listed follow up on any of those okay second we have a motion and a second to approve the second read policies listed all those in favor say I 5 may post motion carries superintendent okay I'm gonna agree I hope that PCM never has to go through budget process like this ever again it's too hard on it too hard on everyone the plan is to to use projections and be proactive with our budget in the in the future there are many people that won't be with us next year due to budgetary reasons um they've been they've been great assets to our student and Community I just want to thank them for their service to PCM and what they've what they've meant to our kids so I just want to say thank you um I uh I do want to introduce uh Monica Pritchard back here if you have noticed if you haven't met she is our shared Transportation director with with Newton so um Monica does a a lot of the communicating back and forth uh with her teammate 8 and um to make sure that all of our routes are going where they need to go activities and and so on so um but Monica thanks for thanks for being here and thanks for working with us this year so far we've got a long ways to go again but I just wanted to do a quick intro deduction there um um legislative session is kicked off uh we will be uh I will be watching updates from uh rule school advocates of Iowa Iowa school board Association School administrators of Iowa and I'll be updating you as much as possible there'll be times where I'll be sending you some links um to what's what's happening probably week by week um and so um and if certain things really come to my attention or hey these are things that we need to be thinking about or reaching out to our local legislators I'll be trying to share that as much as much as possible with you so um let's see also do you I it was early on in our board updates I think I sent a lead a link to out to our regional uh legislators would you like that 1 more time okay so okay I'll need to ask um you know a lot of them yeah right um let's see yeah just to just continuation of what facilities were were going through that the building map the pre-k through 8 realignments um pick up drop off procedures also looking at talking with ahlers about what our you know staying in close connection with ahlers uh what our options are for for this building so I'll continue to keep you updated the more information that we that we get and how we can operate so um uh we talked also at our facility committee um looking at getting that Community survey out about facilities uh investing back into our in back into our district in in those ways and what we what we might need for the future um facility Community facilities committee uh will be reaching out to those people also here at the end of this month so um any other questions thoughts how long you mentioned reaching out to legislators I know some of these nights there are some requests for maybe like a form letter so what he could use to reach out to your legislator and if we could get something like that out or what what could be helpful to improve funding code district yeah meet somebody to go into closed session I'll make a motion we move into closed session session for Iowa Code section 21.51 e to discuss whether to conduct a hearing or to conduct hearings to suspend or expel a student unless an open session is requested by the student or a parent or guardian of the student if the student is a minor give me 1 second okay thank you the email and I and I asked for another voice because I'm like because we have we have 2 people and then they've driven a van right right they don't know may I help you with the pitch or and I did not realize what I heard because I was doing this as part of that right and they yelled at me right now if he's still if he's still working on it hello so okay so usually like when our when we have new employees and they don't have all that Sukkot we just don't they are employed for us again well so we don't put them all in does that make like well like store driver free drivers right I was reading and and they would never be able to clearing house until they're actually physically and employed did their onboarding and stuff with us well so does that make sense this person he's already he's already okay so how about a driver well Tucker must have started his training and went ahead and sent him to his free employment physical we don't do any of that and I I H takes care of all of that stuff and until the sheer it's okay until me and so I try to learn it all because I have I have a whole spreadsheet of how Sandy does that as well like if we keep a that's why I'm trying to do you have a I could just like and today I actually I know exactly all you know they have to do it like in a certain order yeah so you March 7th to the what the state Dr yeah that's what it makes sense before know you guys like that's yeah there's a there's a yeah because they've got an appointment like technically not a driver know I know he's a teacher but so yeah so he sent him to go get the pre-employment stuff and in the meantime so and then the others from it right but then there's still a long ways to be a driver he never finished the training part of the still and he never did the skills test to get in that if we can't get him out of the your house and the sun room yeah oh my God that's crazy yeah I get it now I get it it I mean it makes that's that's I know I know that was a weird his looks different in the his is as soon as all of them are listed as Federal Motor period his his list because I showed he what it looks like when I Twitter and I just assumed it was because he's already in place or already had a CDL he and which is where we should have all the driver information as well for the for the insurance part yeah like all that stuff all that information we should have like all that but I will double check I will go through it last night before I left work I mean all of our all the drivers should be listed right there on RV yes right yes I think that's why I was confused on why I did it too and so I will because you have to yep I need to have Brian in there that's why because I'm like hey can you we'll make sure I have your driver's license to make sure he was in there right um make sure he had a part right and I'll make sure that I got it for you okay um and then back from home he's like uh I never actually got my CBL my appointment because I need to get all I have to redo it for bed yeah so he's going to yes he wants to do it okay he he's a well he's or activity yeah because he's he's a active person okay and he's 1 of all of this okay so I think we'll drive it for a lots of stuff because we have to get it okay yeah okay yeah he said he's going to be he's going to start working on it again and he just he just busy getting yeah and you it's time it's time consuming like I when I started reading leftover like I was um out my oldest son played football for William Penn and so when we traveled to games I would just study my retail off and I just studied and I was doing hair still and I would be like talking to my salon a bit this this you know I'd say all the stuff foral I know it's a lot and it's just stuff that you have to learn for that and like a lot of it you know all that so that free trip will do all the Stop and that's easy that's a piece of cake okay yeah it's just giving your it's just getting your physical ID or the CDL like because it's the pre-trip stuff it's not just driving you don't know anything about mechanics like it was just just learning like the lingo and we're getting any of it so I know I did it either but okay anyway thanks thank you yeah this takes a that's a lot it's easiest stuff right there that you're talking about I like sometimes I don't have brain power like because now I get it and now and I'm gonna have changes well I'm gonna talk somebody walks in and wants to be a bus you just send it my way don't you start any Farm training know you send them my way first because he trained he trained them himself through the word I know we we are down too we we used to go to not DMACC but um um anyways yeah we're doing it that way as well yeah um that's how I did it and then right after I think I was 1 of the last people and then they started sending them here somewhere and it was easier for them and it's very costly yes and that's me the train but he just needs to stick with the training and keep the um everything else but yeah I I have been telling Aaron that I would be able to talk to Tucker because I need to talk about tell me about some buses and stuff like that too so okay really going to try to do that on my agenda this week and um I'll I'll I'll kind of mention that as well so that way you don't need to you know yeah start their exactly yeah the time line now yeah we need to have a timeline and you I just wait for San Diego to tell me what she wants me to do next and or pee and then um I don't I don't I don't jump in like I want I like the process they have the process they know what they need to do and um and we document it in this little thing and so um like a very helpful that'll be nice to have I'm sorry good I know you you got to talk about a lot this morning appreciate it man well your motion is you don't you finding a longer unit okay you're good thank you yeah okay we're back in Open Session do we have a motion I'll motion that student who was the subject of the disciplinary hearing should be expelled from attendance in the PPM Community School school district and any school activities for 1 calendar year until January 19th 2027 that upon of the expulsion period and application for re-mission must be submitted and approved by the administration with a recommendation to the board prior to readmission and that written findings and conclusions consistent with the board's deliberation will be prepared and the president is authorized and directed to execute the findings of fact and second and a motion and second any other I have 1 more thing I guess I want to add now that they're most people out of the room can we make a response from the board for our teachers that resigned like a statement does anybody interested in that or I know we got 2 of them sent to us um I'm not real good at writing so I don't know anybody else is on board with that I just feel like we should say thanks to them or something I don't know I think that's good yeah I know we to we got to respond that everybody get to an email to them um so I don't know if we can somebody's crafty or I don't know we have a volunteer like to or we can put
